Motorola announced an accessory for its popular VIP series of IPTV set tops that eliminates the hassle and expense of replacing batteries and helps consumers locate misplaced remote controls. The new rechargeable remote control and its base station are armed with RF (radio frequency) “find” functionality. A press of a switch on the base station triggers an audible tone and flashing light on all remote controls to help lead consumers to a missing unit.

Siemens is expanding its portfolio of WiMAX subscriber devices with an new Express Card. The Siemens Gigaset SE68 WiMAX Express Card makes it easy for users to get broadband access via computer even on the road. The card is based on the IEEE 802.16-2005 standard, complies with the Wave 2 specifications, including MIMO (Multiple Input / Multiple Output) A and B, and supports beamforming. SHC demonstrates the card live at the WiMAX Forum Congress Asia in Singapore. Sony Ericsson launched its first HSPA 7.2 / 2.0 devices with the ExpressCard/34 form factor, the Sony Ericsson EC400 and EC400g. Both mobile broadband Express Cards help busy professionals on the go to save time by enabling instant Internet access, regardless of their location. Sliding easily into a laptop’s ExpressCard slot, the Sony Ericsson EC400g and EC400 allow up to 7.2 Mb/s in download and 2.0 Mb/s in upload speeds. Additionally, the Sony Ericsson EC400g is equipped with an inbuilt GPS receiver, which automatically shows the user’s current location on Google Maps or a similar service or can feed into any other location-based service.

The number of mobile users with access to broadband services is increasing rapidly as operators upgrade their 3G networks with HSPA technology and roll out an array of advanced 3G handsets.
