Sony Media & Peripherals Europe (MPE) has launched a new range of pocket-sized multi-function digital recorders. Ideal for recording lectures, meetings, presentations and music as well as doubling as portable data storage, these devices combine up to 2GB capacity with the speed and convenience of a direct USB 2.0 connection to PCs and Macs. The Sony ICD-UX71FP and Sony ICD-UX81FR offer 1GB and 2GB storage respectively and both models feature an FM tuner for enjoying and recording radio on the move. The Sony ICD-UX71FP is available in Pink, while the Sony ICD-UX81FR is finished in Red.

Sony announced the commercialization of "Sony IMX060PQ", a new type 1/2.5 CMOS image sensor "Exmor" for use in camera enabled mobile phones that leverages Sony's proprietary formation technology to realize the industry's smallest unit cell size (1.4µm), and the industry's highest pixel count (12.25 effective megapixel resolution). The "Sony IMX060PQ" is designed to meet the increasing need for advanced image quality within mobile phone enabled cameras. Sony also announced the launch of "IMX046PQ", a type 1/3.2 CMOS image sensor "Exmor" with 8.11 effective megapixel, and "IMX045PQ", a type 1/4 "Exmor" CMOS image sensor featuring 5.15 effective megapixel resolution.

Sony unveiled three new Walkman video MP3 models that for the first time in the United States support noise-cancelling and Bluetooth technologies. All three NWZ-S710F, NWZ-A720 and NWZ-A820 Walkman players also support common audio formats, including MP3s. The new Sony Walkman video players offer great video resolution and brightness, along with high-quality sound and an extended battery life. They come with Sony’s EX series in-ear-buds with 13.5 mm drivers that passively block out ambient noise and help create a better listener experience.

Designed for bedrooms, studio apartments or college dorm rooms, Sony is unveiling its latest clock radio with a dock for Apple iPod and Apple iPhone. Sony is one of the first companies to launch an Apple iPhone compatible speaker clock radio. It features a wireless remote with full access to the iPod and iPhone devices’ menus (the Apple iPhone handset must be in iPod mode), as well as to alarm clock’s radio tuning and volume functions. It also charges the Apple iPhone while docked.

Sony announced "TransferJet", a new Close Proximity Wireless Transfer Technology enabling the high speed transfer of large data files (photos, HD images, etc.) between electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras, digital video cameras, computers and TVs. Using this technology, data can be sent at speeds of 560Mbps. Sony will present reference exhibits of this newly developed technology at CES International, to be held in Las Vegas from January 7th.

Sony Europe’s Recording Media & Energy (RME) division announced the launch of exclusive Poker Promo editions of Memory Stick Micro and MicroVault Midi USB keys. The special edition Sony Memory Stick Micro, available as 1GB or 2GB models, offers a free ‘Midnight Hold’Em Poker’ game to download onto a Sony Ericsson mobile phone. While the special edition MicroVault Midi 2GB and 4GB comes with a PC game of World Championship Poker 2 in the box.

Sony announced the introduction of its new 40GB of its Playstation 3 (PS3) game console. The Sony playstation 40GB model will be hitting the game stores beginning of November. The 40GB version of the PS3 will be bundled with the blockbuster movie Spider Man 3 Blu-ray Disc from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and will be available in North America for a suggested retail price of $399 (USD). Sony also announced that effective immediately, the current Playstation 80GB PS3 will be available in North America for $499 (USD), $100 below the original launch price.
