Apple previewed its Apple iPhone OS 3.0 software and announced the availability of a beta software release to registered developers. The Apple iPhone beta software release includes an updated Software Development Kit with over 1000 new Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) including In-App Purchases; Peer-to-Peer connections; an app interface for accessories; access to the Apple iPod music library; a new Maps API and Push Notifications. “The new Apple iPhone operating software is a major software release packed with incredible new features and innovations for iPhone customers and developers alike. It will keep us years ahead of the competition,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Shazam, the world’s leading mobile music discovery provider, announced its top rated mobile application is now available across Europe on the Android platform, following its successful launch in the UK and US markets in 2008. Shazam allows users to identify music by holding their mobile phone towards an unknown song and ‘tagging’ a track. Users can then go on to purchase tracks through the Amazon MP3 store, automatically access more information and become ‘friends’ with artists through their MySpace pages. Shazam was the third most popular application when the Android Marketplace launched, and since has generated more than 6,000 reviewers giving it a 4.5 star out of 5 star rating.
