Trapster launched the world's first speed trap sharing social network for mobile phones. This new information sharing community gives control back to individual drivers allowing them to work together to be more aware of local speed limits and avoid hefty fines and penalties. Users alert other members to police speed traps in real time, using a simple button push on their mobile phone. The community includes a sophisticated ratings system to measure the reliability of members thereby increasing confidence in the alert data.

Nuance Communications, a provider of speech and imaging solutions, announced that Nuance Voice Control, a speech-based mobile search and messaging service, is now available in French. Rogers Wireless, Canada’s largest wireless voice and data communications service provider, will be the first to offer Nuance Voice Control in French beginning in April 2008.

Verizon Wireless reminds consumers to take steps now to comply with new driver safety initiatives. Motorists in California have less than four months to get ready to comply with a new state law requiring drivers over the age of 18 to use hands-free devices when talking on their wireless phones. Starting July 1, 2008, motorists over 18 could face fines starting at $20 for talking on wireless phones without using hands-free devices, while drivers under the age of 18 are prohibited from using a wireless phone even with a hands-free device while operating a motor vehicle.

NEC Corporation, a provider of Next Generation IP Voice and Media service solutions, announced that their intention to connect the virtual world, namely "Second Life" to the real world using their SCI Platform solution. SCI Platform, which incorporates components of NEC's Service Delivery Platform (SDP) for providers of IP voice and multimedia services, will liberate currently closed virtual world communications and connect them to the real world by using a unique `NEC communicator` placed in Second Life world.
