HTC Diamond review

From the package it is clear that HTC now more than ever aim at the design, with the P3700, better known as the HTC Touch Diamond, in order to conquer a larger crowd. The operating system of the HTC Diamond is Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. This new version has undergone several small improvements. Furthermore, the HTC Diamond offers many options. New is the 4GB internal memory and a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus. In addition, the HTC offers a large touchscreen, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS and HSDPA for quick Internet scrolling.

Sony NWZ-A826 MP3 player review

The Sony NWZ-A826 is one of many MP3 players belonging to the Walkman A-series. This edition features 4GB flash memory, as well as a large and particularly clear 2.4 inch monitor; in additon the MP3 player offers several audio novelties, and all of this in a housing with a thickness of a mere 9.3 mm. The EX earplugs complete the package nicely and make it extremely attractive.

The large amount of patents Apple applied for on behalf of the iPhone makes you expect that this should lead to an exclusive device. Nokia N810 internet tablet review

Mobile Internet is gradually becoming more important. The number of people using their mobile phone to find information about the weather/traffic, or to send and receive emails, is growing by the day. Nokia meet the demand for multimedia devices with their N-series. The handsets belonging to these series are perfectly suitable for Internet access, making video calls, navigation and many more functions. Generally, surfing the Internet on a small device such as a mobile phone works fairly well, however, if you frequently use the Internet, you do notice the lack of a full keyboard and touch screen on the Nokia phones. Nokia aims at a different target group with the Internet Tablet.

Asus Eee PC test

Upon launching the Asus Eee PC, it was clear that the interest in this product was huge. The name Eee stands for three times Easy: Easy to learn, Easy to play and Easy to work. It made the Asus brand name become a house-hold name. This cheap mini laptop of Asus was initially aiming at the developing countries, however, it turned out that the Eee PC caught the attention of a much wider public. The mini laptop comes with various memory capacities and features a solid state drive, which improves the shock proof features of the device tremendously.

We tested the Packard Bell Eclipse not so long ago, and this time we will scrutinize the Packard Bell AudioKey Max. This MP3 player is ranked right below the Eclipse in the Packard Bell assortment, and offers a tad more functionality than a regular MP3 player, including several innovative features. In addition to listening to MP3s, the device lets you record voice recordings and listen to the radio. Furthermore, a neatly finished USB 2.0 connection is applied for easy transfer of files to your AudioKey Max MP3 player. The small size and entirely black design with chrome finishing give this MP3 player a stylish and elegant appearance. The Packard Bell MP3 player is available for approximately 60 Euros.

Samsung G810 mobile photography

Recently Samsung Netherlands introduced their latest mobile navigator. It is already quite interesting to walk around with this kind of mobile navigation system in your pocket, though it becomes even more interesting when it's combined with mobile photography. Although the new Samsung G810 mobile phone is not considered to be the successor to the Samsung G800, we do find its 5 Megapixel image sensor combined with a 3x optical zoom. This combination is similar to the features of last year’s standard compact camera as far as specifications on paper are concerned. How well mobile photography with the Samsung SGH-G810 does in practice, we will show through the following sample photos.

LG KF600 review

The LG KF600 is a handy sized cell phone with many options. In addition to a 3.0 Megapixel digital camera, Bluetooth and a radio, this phone offers something we have never seen before on a mobile phone: it has two monitors. A common TFT monitor and a touchscreen. The touchscreen is intelligent and offers help, and shows the buttons you need at a specific moment in time. We have been able to extensively test the LG KF600 mobile phone in practise.

HTC Touch Diamond preview

The latest innovation of HTC; the HTC Touch Diamond was introduced during a press conference. This press conference was held in the media plaza at the 'Jaarbeurs' building in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The HTC Diamond is the first device based on Windows Mobile 6.1. There doesn't seem to be a vast difference between Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 though. The main differences are found in the battery's standby time which has been increased with 8% to 20% and the fact that it is possible to operate this mobile phone from a distance. In addition, the HTC Diamond features the new TouchFLO 3D technology. TouchFLO 3D is a farther developed version of the HTC TouchFLO technique which we have come across in the first HTC Touch.

ATP photo GPS review

The Taiwanese company ATP Electronics, founded in 1991, mainly aims at producing flash memory products. Besides memory cards, USB drives and card readers, ATP Electronics recently also produced the ATP Photo Finder. This GPS picture tracker calculates and registers your GPS position whilst time synchronisation links it to your digital camera, thus registering where and when a picture was taken. Picasa2, Google Earth and Google Maps software enable you to have a visual view of the geographic location the picture was taken. This free online application also allows for sharing your pictures with other people.

Devices with this kind of storage capacity are for example; Apple iPhone, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N96 and the Nokia N81 8GB. The Nokia N81 8GB truly is a multimedia device. The Nokia N81 8GB makes music, games and movies come alive. To emphasize the fact that the target group of the Nokia N81 8GB consists of multimedia enthusiasts, Nokia have applied 'dedicated multimedia keys' to the N81 8GB. Some disadvantages we notice even from looking at the specifications are: average camera, no HSDPA and the weight.

Samsung U900 Photo Gallery

During a Samsung press conference on a sunny day in The Netherlands, we were given the opportunity to shoot some sample photos with the Samsung U900 mobile phone (Also known as Samsung Soul). The press conference was held at the castle 'De Hooge Vuursche in Baarn. Despite the limited time we had to take the Samsung U900 on a stroll to shoot some sample photos, we were still able to get a good impression of the photo quality, the functions and the operation of the Samsung U900. The Samsung U900 main features are the innovative touchpad monitor, fast 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connection availability, a 5 Megapixel digital camera with auto focus, face detection and (electronic) image stabilization.

Samsung F700 review

Currently mobile phones are used for a lot more than calling and sending text messages alone. Smartphones are gradually catching up with sales of mobile phones. The difference between a smartphone and a regular mobile phone is mainly found in the more extensive E-mail and Internet functionalities on the smartphone. The operation system of a smartphone is usually based on Microsoft Mobile, Symbian or PalmOS. However, Samsung have chosen equipping the F700 with their own operating system. The Samsung F700 Smartphone's most obvious features are the full (QWERTY) keyboard and of course the touchscreen.

Garmin GPS review

The Garmin GPSmap 60CSx is a GPS receiver that holds the top position in the Garmin handheld segment and is specifically designed for consumers. The Garmin features a waterproof housing and has been equipped with a built-in SiRF receiver, a barometric altimeter, a compass and a basic map. The GPSmap 60CSx also features a fairly large colour TFT monitor and a microSD card to store the routes. We have been able to extensively test this GPS receiver in practice.

Also pictures can be viewed on it. The version we tested has been equipped with an 8GB internal memory, has a weight of 153 grams and is black.

Nokia N95 8GB Review

It has been quite some time since the Nokia N95 mobile phone was put on the market. During the Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona the successor was already announced: the Nokia N96. In the meantime Nokia have put an 8GB version of the Nokia N95 on the market. After its appearance it turned out that the N95 had some minus points. The battery ran out too quickly, the RAM memory was full in no-time and the GPS navigation wasn't always too precise.

Mid 2007 HP put the iPAQ 514 voice messenger on the market. The HP iPAQ 514 is a straight to the point business device. The consumer looking for a cell phone with a high resolution camera and enhanced multimedia player should forget about the HP 514. The HP iPAQ 514 has been equipped with Windows Mobile 6 and offers many functions that will appeal to the business user. Thanks to its price of around € 200 we can easily call it the cheapest business handset at the moment.

Cell phones are offering more functionalities every day. A growing crowd seems to consider calling less important than being able to use email, Internet, digital camera and navigation possibilities. The consumer seems mature enough now for the smartphone, or the multimedia computer as Nokia likes to refer to it, and for a good reason. The Nokia Communicator, the mother of all smartphones has had some transformation during the eleven years of its existence. The device was already years ahead to start with. Still it remained a device tailored to the needs of the business user. Both types of devices not only differ physically but also as far as operation system is concerned. The better you know which functions you are going to use on a frequent base, the easier it is to make your choice. Sony Ericsson W910i review

Looking at all this I couldn't wait to start testing the W910i. The elegant slider phone looks simply beautiful. HSDPA, Walkman 3.0 and shake control make us believe we are dealing with a high-end mobile phone here. Will this handset live up to our expectations? Nokia N82 review

Samsung S5 review

During the year 2007 Samsung have placed various YP-series music players on the market. And the in January 2007 introduced YP-K5 has already seen its successor; the YP-S5 multimedia player. The K5 was known as a light MP3 player with a so-called slider system and a touch screen. In our review about the K5 we called it ‘a very innovative MP3 player’. As always there were some issues that needed improvement such as the Samsung K5 not offering video play function. Packard Bell Eclipse review

The newest MP4 player of Packard Bell is the Eclipse. The Packard Bell is capable of playing audio files of MP3 and WMA (DRM) format. Voice recording is also possible through the built-in microphone and the files will be stored as .wav file. A slide show function is also available for rendering the pictures sequentially. Samsung G800 review

With the introduction of the Samsung G600 in July 2007 everybody was convinced it would take a while for Samsung to introduce a new five Megapixel camera mobile. How could we get it so wrong, because at the end of October 2007 the Samsung G800 was already available for checking out at a Dutch dealer event. The SGH-G800 is unique in its class thanks to its three times optical zoom and face detection. According to Samsung the G800 has been equipped with a camera that can fully compete with a regular digital compact camera. Samsung also claim that the Samsung G800 leaves all mobile phone competitors far behind. Is Samsung truly able to fulfil the promises they made? LG Viewty review

A digital camera inside a cell phone is not exceptional these days. It becomes a different case when a 5 Megapixel digital camera is integrated in a mobile phone. And although there are more handsets equipped with a 5 Megapixel digital camera, for example the Nokia N82, Samsung G800 and the Sony Ericsson K850i, there is a vast difference in the quality of the camera. The KU990 is the first 5 Megapixel cell phone of LG. It looks like LG is starting to take mobile photography seriously. The LG Viewty is up to date with its large touchscreen, 5 Megapixel digital camera and multimedia player. We were able to test the LG Viewty extensively.

The beautiful black box of the Jabra JX10 Cara Gold is on the large side, unlike the headset. It carries a gold stripe across it to indicate that we are dealing with the gold edition and it closes nicely with a magnet integrated in the box. SanDisk Sansa Express review

Shortly after having sent us the Sansa C250 and Sansa Shaker sent us the SanDisk Sansa Express for reviewing. Sansa Express is a USB format MP3 player supporting, among other things, WMA, WAV and MP3 format. The SanDisk Sansa Express features a dual-colour OLED monitor, weighs a mere 30 grams and is very compact with its dimensions of 79 x 25 x 17mm. The SanDisk Express MP3 player's sound is of acceptable quality. Using the Equalizer lets you fine-tune the sound to your personal preference which may change the acceptable quality to good quality.

More and more cell phones are able to offer HSDPA or UMTS thus offering options like MSN, Skype, Internet and Email; all very attractive functions for the business user. Up until recently not much attention was paid to the design of a business phone. Most of them were just grey or black models. Samsung SGH-G800 preview

At a Samsung dealer event in the Netherlands I had the change to get my hands on the upcoming 5 Megapixel mobile phone; the Samsung G800. The Samsung SGH-G800 will be introduced later on this year, at least in the Netherlands, and target the multimedia consumer who is also into mobile imaging. The Samsung SGH-G800 is an ultra thin slider mobile phone and show off with a great design. The designer Samsung G800 cam phone has a digicam-like metallic design and features a 5 Megapixel digital camera. The handset is one of Samsung’s top models and has to bring Samsung into the high resolution market for mobile phones. This segment is interesting for the manufacturer, the consumer is willing to pay some extras for mobile image quality.

Another new mobile phone has been unveiled at the HTC press event held in the Amsterdam Arena, the Netherlands. When HTC introduced the Touch everyone was thinking of iPhone. You can say what you want to say, but the reality is that since the introduction of the HTC Touch in Asia and Europe, US will get the Touch later on, already 800.000 have been sold. LetsGoDigital published their Casio Exilim EX-V7 review. To start with, the Casio EX-V7 is a slim camera, but most remarkably, it has an incredible zoom range for such a compact camera. It has a 7x optical zoom, which is equivalent to a 38 to 266 mm zoom. And that in such a compact model! To prevent movement blur, the Casio EX-V7 has a built-in image stabiliser; the image sensor can shift. On top of that, the camera has an Anti Shake DSP; as the camera detects movement in the subject, it searches for the ideal ISO rate and shutter speed.

Just have a look at the recently launched LG Shine, a tight, shiny device, which is not operated with a joystick, but with a scroll dial. Prada, a designer brand with their main office in the fashion conscious city of Milan, places new fashion trends on the fashion market since 1913 and was pioneer in the area of leather goods. In 1989, Prada launched their first Prêt-à-Porter collection. Prada’s designs are often simple and tight with subtle accents. In practice, Prada and LG seem to suit one another perfectly.

At the start of this year Samsung introduced a new mobile in their Ultra Edition line at the 3GSM in Barcelona. One of the phones introduced was the Samsung SGH-U600, also known as the Samsun Ultra Edition 10.9. The Samsung U600 is a mobile phone that appears at first glance to fulfil all the wishes of the average mobile phone user. Approximately 8% of the profits return to R&D so that Samsung can continually put new, innovative phones on the market. The Samsung U600 is a slider phone equipped with a 3.2 Megapixel autofocus digital camera with flash, an MP3 player and a microSD card with extendable memory and some touch sensitive keys. Those who grew up in the time of the Sinclair, Atari and Commodore gaming consoles, where games were the order of the day, or those who entered the gaming world solo or online with their PC, but who chose digital photography as a ‘serious and responsible’ hobby, will reminisce, with melancholy, about last March 23rd 2007 when the Sony PS3 was introduced officially in Europe. During the Photokina 2006 Nokia presented the N95. This caused a lot of commotion in the mobile phone camera world. Now the multimedia giant is also available for testing, and we have made the first test shots. Judging by its specifications, the Nokia N95 does not currently have an equivalent. The Nokia N95 is everything that the N-series stands for, which is a real multimedia telephone. It has all you could imagine, such as GPS, an MP3 player, a video player or WLAN, you name it. In the next Nokia N95 test you can read if these functions all perform well, if they have any use, and if the built-in 5 Megapixel camera really is as good as Nokia wants us to believe.

HTC Herald P4350 review

HTC is a slowly but surely rising brand. The telephones they produce look professional, have a perfect hand fit and are stacked with handy Windows Mobile based functions. Also coming up lately are telephones equipped with a touch screen. On the one hand a touch screen is definitely a great surplus but on the other hand it is not handy when writing an SMS, MMS or an email. HTC has equipped the HTC Herald P4350 with the solution: sliding the telephone to open it, will give you an extended keyboard, small but useful. We have had the HTC P4350 in our possession for a period of time to carry out some extensive tests. Noreve delivered an additional leather case of high quality to protect the HTC P4350.

Recently I've noticed that the trend of making telephones increasingly minuscule has been slowing grinding down to halt. Telephones are getting bigger again and luckily, the number of functions is increasing along with the format. LCD Touch screens are becoming more common and a good MP3 player and digital camera are now ordinary extras that everyone takes for granted. When the HTC P3600 was introduced a while ago, it was ahead of its time. It is a candy bar phone with only a few keys on the bottom for taking and ending calls and operating and scrolling in the menu. The HTC Trinity P3600 also has a touch screen which can be operated with a pen and your finger.

In the year 1994 Henri Seydoux founded Parrot in Paris. Parrot's complete assortment consists of products that fully aim at the cell phone and Bluetooth market. They manufacture products such as loudspeakers you can connect to your cell phone or computer via Bluetooth and Bluetooth hands-free sets. Monitoring the Parrot assortment for a while we found out that their products have become more innovative and more beautiful in a short period of time. Recently a new Parrot product attracted my attention; a 7-inch digital photo frame that lets you transfer your pictures to the internal memory through Bluetooth. Parrot has been so kind as to send me a sample which gave me the opportunity of testing the Parrot Photo Viewer 7".

Samsung's designers know how to make an attractive device, and thanks to the Samsung K5 that came out quite recently we again acknowledge the designers' skill. At first, this modern MP3 player looks like an ordinary MP3 player, but if you take a closer look, you will see that it has no buttons. A quick look at the products they are currently launching is enough to tell us that Samsung is on the up and up. They know how to strike the right balance between style and elegance, user friendliness and innovation, to give products just that little extra. All this, is of course, a matter of personal taste. After the MP3 player had been fully charged and turned on, I got a pleasant surprise in the form of Madonna's new CD on the Samsung YP-K5.
