The camera application is easy to open and clearly set up, as we are accustomed to in a Samsung. The Galaxy Mega has an 8-megapixel digital camera with automatic focus. There is also a 4x digital zoom as well as an image stabilizer and an LED flash. The Samsung Galaxy Mega detects faces and there are setting possibilities for white balance and lighting, among others. Additionally, there are 10 handy photo modes present: Panorama, HDR, Continuous Shot, Night, Sports, Sound & Shot, Best Face, Best Photo, Beauty Face, and Auto mode. To switch the photo mode, you do not need to go into the menu, there is a clear ‘Mode’ button, directly under the ‘Photo’ button.

Shooting photos with the Galaxy Mega

Due to the large screen, you get a clear picture of your total composition. On the other hand, you notice that due to the large screen, it is more difficult to prevent smartphone shake while shooting a photo. Luckily, the Samsung Galaxy Mega is equipped with a software image stabilizer, but that does not mean that all photos will be sharp. If you take your time shooting a photo, you can shoot nice photos with the Galaxy Mega. The image quality is generally good. Color representation is natural, noise is acceptable, and sharpness is sufficient. It is also possible to make a personal Story Album, with which your photos are organized based on a time line - with a chosen theme and layout.

Shooting portraits with the Galaxy Mega

There is a second digital camera on the front, with a resolution of 1.9 megapixels. In the camera application, you can switch between the rear camera and the front camera with the press of a button. Additionally, it is possible to use the front camera for video chats. There are also various editing possibilities. Next to cropping a photo, you can also adjust colors or effects, and add stickers, and frames. You can also cut photos, and keep only the part of the photo that you want.

Shooting Full HD videos with the Samsung Mega

The Samsung Galaxy Mega records videos in Full HD quality with a frame rate of 30fps. The 1920x1080 pixel resolution is often seen in smartphones these days. Still, this does not say everything about video quality. The Galaxy Mega’s video quality is certainly good. The camera focuses pretty fast and sharp, which in my opinion largely contributes to the final result of the video. Next to adjusting the file format, there are no further video setting possibilities available. You can, however, pause the video while recording.
