Samsung Wave review | Menu & Camera
Samsung Wave Bada smartphone
Samsung Wave phone menu
The menu can be accessed with the middle key under the touch screen. Next to three start screens, the menu itself is also made up of three tabs. This is fairly simple, but it resembles the iPhone quite a lot, in terms of design. That is actually too bad, because with a new operating system, you want to be able to distinguish yourself. Now it is just like the rest and it is hard to compete with the existing systems such as Apple and Google. The menu can be arranged according to one’s own tastes, by holding down an item and then placing it in the desired location.

Download applications via Samsung Apps
Next to all the standard functions, there is also room in the menu to download applications. This is also similar to Apple’s App Store and the Android Market for the Android operating system. However, the selection available in ‘Samsung Apps’ is still pretty meager. That is not surprisingly due to the new Bada system, but it’s too bad. That makes for quite a setback compared to the competition. I am curious if this will change, or whether few developers will work with it in the future.

5 Megapixel digital camera
Of course the Samsung Wave S8500 also has an integrated digital camera. This Samsung smartphone’s 5.0 megapixel digital camera is even equipped with a LED-flash, so that you can always capture your favorite moments anywhere you are. The lens is tightly integrated on the back, although that leaves it unprotected.

Samsung S8500 camera application
The camera application can be started up with the camera quick key on the side, or via the menu itself. It takes about 2 seconds to start up the application. Then four icons appear to the left and right of the screen. This is handy to quickly turn on the flash, for example, but that amount of icons is also a bit busy. The nice, clear screen ensures a good display.

T he quality of the photos made with the Samsung Wave cell phone is nice. Only the photos, or rather the colors on the phone’s screen, appear much more beautiful on the AMOLED screen than they truly are. If you review the photos on the computer, or print them out, they are a bit disappointing. But this is a typical ‘disadvantage’ of such a beautiful display. Next to the photo function, you can also shoot video in HD quality with the Samsung Wave S8500.
