Before you can shoot photographs with the LG GT540, the application has to be started up with the quick key on the side, via the menu. Starting up takes about 3 to 4 seconds, so that the most spontaneous moments are already gone before you can capture them. There are several icons for settings and functions found around the viewfinder. The macro function has to be turned on manually, as opposed to many other cell phones. Taking a photo also takes about 2 to 3 seconds.

Shooting photos & videos

While taking a photo, you can also select the video mode in order to shoot video clips with a maximum resolution of 640x480 pixels. Several settings are found around the screen, such as brightness, zoom, resolution, and shooting distance. For more settings, you have to go to a separate menu. The photos that we shot are nice, but not really of high quality. Noise is quickly visible and the colors are not always clear and strong (especially when there is a lot of light). The dynamic range is limited and that is immediately visible in high-contrast situations. As a camera, the LG GT540 is a beginner model.

LG Optimus supports microSDHC memory

The LG Optimus Android’s internal memory has a 130MB capacity. For such a smartphone, this is of course insufficient, and the memory can be extended with a microSD/SDHC memory card up to a maximum of 32GB. The memory card is inserted behind the flap on the back, just above the battery. This means that you do not have to turn off the phone in order to change the memory card.

Stand-by time of the LG GT540 Optimus

The LG Optimus Android uses a 3.7V 1500mAh Lithium Ion battery of the type LGIP-400N. According to the specifications, this battery should deliver a maximum talk time of 5 hours and a maximum stand-by time of 500 hours. These are good specifications, and in practice, the battery’s stand-by time did not disappoint us. With fairly intensive use, LG’s new cell phone can be used for at least 4 days without having to recharge the battery.
