Sony picture frame review
View angle of the Sony DPF-X1000 frame
The way pictures are displayed on the Sony DPF-X1000 photo frame is, without exaggeration, simply stunning. Without any adjustments through the options, the pictures are already well-displayed, and the colors are vivid and true-to-nature. The aspect ratio of 15:1 works well. In addition, the Sony X1000 offers a wide viewing angle. If the frame is placed in a room, changes or distortion of the screen will hardly ever, to even not at all happen. This goes for viewing from all angles, except when viewing from the bottom.

Sony X1000 image format support
If you try to view the screen from below, it will not work, because the screen will turn dark. In horizontal position, this doesn't make much of a difference, and I don’t assume the photo frame will be placed on a cupboard nearly reaching the ceiling. Otherwise, the screen is excellent, and thanks to the possibility of adjusting the lighting, every picture comes across as bright and sharp. The Sony S-Frame X1000 photo frame supports the following formats: JPEG, TIFF and BMP.

Sony picture frame connections and options
The Sony S-Frame photo frame provides more than enough options to upload your pictures. There's the option to use the 2GB of internal memory, and additionally, the photo frame features a card reader, supporting almost all current memory cards. If that is not enough, the frame also features a USB connector. During testing the photo frame, I used the frame’s USB port to connect a 4GB memory stick, which for 50% contained pictures while the remaining 50% contained other files. Upon plugging in the USB stick, the Sony photo frame immediately detects the pictures that are on the stick, and you will be given the choice to either display one picture, display all the pictures as a slide show, or simply select which ones to display per file.

Sony photo frame reproduction in HD quality
It's the smart menu of the Sony X1000 which makes it all possible and ever so easy. What applies to the USB stick, also applies to memory cards and the internal memory; pictures are loaded very quickly, and while searching the menu, it is a piece of cake to find the right pictures and provide a slide show. The HDMI output makes this photo frame very special. It's this output functionality that enables you to play and view all the pictures you can display on the photo frame, on an HD screen or monitor, in order to enjoy full HD reproduction. Every connector is neatly hidden on the back of the photo frame, so even with all the technology the frame contains, it still has a sleek appearance.
