Nokia N900 review

5 megapixel Carl Zeiss

T he Nokia N900 features an integrated digital camera with Carl Zeiss lens and a resolution of 5.0 megapixels. The camera application starts automatically as soon as the lens cover opens. The application starts up very swiftly, so that you're able to quickly capture that one moment. In case the lens cover is already open but the application is deactivated, you can also activate it through the shutter release button or by selecting 'camera' in the menu. After start-up, two black bars appear on both sides alongside the viewfinder. The right bar contains the icons for the settings.

Focussing with the Nokia N900

By pressing the shutter button slightly, focus is carried out, which takes approximately two seconds. When focus is completed, you can press to actually capture the scene. Just like the mini N97, the Nokia N900 skips the focus when the shutter button is pressed immediately. This way, you are able to capture something quickly, but whether the picture turns out sharply in that case, remains to be seen. This function allows too many blurred pictures in my opinion. Especially if accidentally pushed directly.

Nokia N900 camera phone settings

The bar alongside the viewfinder provides access to the settings. There are four icons which represent the recording mode, the flash, the settings and the captured pictures; thus enabling easy adjustment of the shooting mode and flash settings. For example, if the macro mode is set, we are able to see this through a displayed macro icon, and if you don't change the setting, it will remain activated even after restarting the application. Be aware! The pictures taken with the Nokia N900 are of a reasonable quality. Although it has to be said they are quite dark, and with limited light, it is difficult to take a decent picture. The dual LED flash is a nice addition to add a little more light when you need it.
