Garmin Nüvi 1240 test conclusion

The 1240 Garmin Nuvi does exactly what it should do; it is an excellent car navigation system. The suction cup mount is easy to attach and remains well attached. The holder is easy to aim, and due to the spherical mount, it is stiff enough not to have the screen tilting at every bump in the road. Due to the reflectivity of the screen, I am less enthusiastic about the use outside the car. Moreover, we lack proper mounting material for the bike, and for walking I would have like a carrier strap included. Outdoors, we may also encounter energy problems, since the built-in battery lasts for only 4 hours and cannot simply be replaced by batteries.

While testing, I did not actually run into inefficiencies. Only the Triplog caused me some trouble. Some pieces seemed to be missing. Also, calculating the fuel proved a bit mysterious at times. This could be related to the at times ambiguous operation of Triplog.

The "ordinary" work is carried out correctly, and comes at a price that would normally only buy you a map set for one of the more enhanced devices. If you consider the fact you only need an update once every few years, due to changes in the network, then you could even consider purchasing this type of navigation device every single time.

I think when it comes to ranking and judging this device, you should not consider the larger and more expenses devices, but keep in mind that we are dealing with an entry-level model. It is not a universal device; its key power is the use inside a car. I would award the Garmin Nuvi 1240 with a well-deserved 8!
