Samsung M8910 handset for the real mobile photographer

In addition to all the digital effects and useful programs, there is plenty left for the mobile photographer. Via the settings menu, it is possible to adjust settings such as Focus (Macro, AF, Face Detection), Resolution (also 16:9 mode), white balance, ISO, etc. to your personal liking. And as mentioned earlier; with great speed. The photography experience with the Samsung Pixon 12 is therefore similar to that of an entry-level compact camera.

Samsung Pixon 12 photo sensor

It has to be said: the amount of pixels Samsung is throwing at us (marketing), does bother us slightly, especially considering how it works out in practice. On paper it looks cool; 12 Megapixels, but the question is, what good it actually does in practice. In fact, nothing, or at least we simply don't need this large amount. We’d like to see high-quality pixels introduced in combination with a high sensitivity image sensor. Such development and deployment is however yet to come. The camera industry is also aware of this, and we are witnessing a shifting focus from pixel amount to pixel quality. The new Canon PowerShot G11 is an example; it's the successor to the 14 megapixel G10, but with an image sensor of 'only' 10 Megapixels. However, the sensor itself ensures an improved sensitivity by the large pixel size, and thus a higher quality with significantly less image noise at high ISO.
