Samsung Beat review

Samsung Beat multimedia

T here are many multimedia software applications available on the Samsung Beat. Whether it is music you want to enjoy, watch a DivX movie on the crystal-clear AMOLED color screen, or just listen to the radio for awhile; everything is possible. The built-in speaker allows you to play your music at a very high volume with a surprisingly fine quality. We still miss some low tones here and there, but on the whole, it sounds quite nice. In addition, at video files the image will automatically jump to the full-screen mode when rotating the phone, this is very convenient and it works both ways.

By sliding the slider button on the side of the phone downwards, the music player of the Samsung Beat is activated. You can then also enjoy your music through the built-in speakers, or you can use any headset you want by using the 3.5mm headset jack on the top side. In addition to the standard music player, you will find the BeatDJ application on the phone. If you play a music file, a rotating CD is displayed on the screen, which allows for scratching by sliding your finger over it. Additionally, you can filter and add sample sounds. In fact, all of this can be recorded allowing you to create your own tracks.

Mobile internet on your phone

The standard Samsung browser provides access to the Internet. In general, all is displayed just fine, however, if you search the Internet frequently, it is not the best solution. The phone supports HSDPA and if it is available, the speed is fine. The lack of WiFi means you have to use the mobile network to access the Internet. This requires an internet bundle for optimum use, more so since the Google Maps application, working via the GPS antenna, also needs connecting to the Internet. Without an Internet connection, several functions cannot be used properly.

microSDHC memory card support

The internal memory of the Samsung Beat measures 50MB. These 50MB are far from sufficient for a music phone, especially if you want to store other files on it, such as movies and pictures. This requires a bigger memory capacity. Fortunately, you can expand the memory by a microSD / SDHC memory card. The Samsung Beat officially supports these memory cards up to a maximum of 16GB, but we would not be surprised if a 32GB card also works.

Standby time of the Samsung M7600

The included 3.7V 960mAh Lithium-Ion battery ensures many hours of fun with your Samsung Beat. The maximum standby time according to the specifications is 400 hours, and the maximum talk-time 7 hours. During testing, it came down to about 4 days, which is good at average use. In comparison to many other phones, the standby time certainly is a plus point for the Samsung Beat DJ M7600. If you plan to listen to a huge amount of music, this will of course affect the standby time.
