Samsung Beat review | Digital camera
Samsung Beat DJ menu
O nce inside the menu, we find the standard Samsung menu including its twelve icons that take us to all the desired functions. Google has also obtained its own spot in the menu, thus providing quick access to Google Maps, Google Search and Google Mail. The menu is reasonably clear and well-structured, but the phone's response is rather slow. Also when locking the keys, you will find it takes time before it actually shows. Scrolling through long lists proves to be a bit difficult with your fingers, and it is in fact better to use the volume buttons on the side of the Beat. It's a pity not everything works in landscape mode, while the phone provides a better hand-fit that way.

Camera application on the Samsung M7600
Starting up the camera application is done by using the dedicated camera button on the side of the phone, or by using the camera option in the menu. Startup time is quite long, however, still fairly acceptable. It helps that you don't have to keep the shortcut pressed, and it suffices to press just once. This really saves time. As soon as the camera application is started, both sides of the screen will display three icons. The rest of the entire screen serves as viewfinder, while the resolution as well as the remaining amount of pictures that can be made, are displayed at the top of the screen.

Shooting pictures with the Samsung BeatDJ
Taking the actual picture takes a lot more time than starting up the camera application. Focusing seems to take forever. Approximately 3 seconds will pass before the picture is actually captured. And even if there is a small movement after the shutter sound, the picture still turns out blurred. This makes it virtually impossible to capture a spontaneous snapshot. Even more so if the phone is inside your pocket, in lock mode, in which case it really does take a while before you're ready to capture the first shot.
Samsung Beat DJ camera settings
Digital camera settings menu
As mentioned earlier, the settings can be adjusted by the icons that become visible after starting the camera application. Flash and clearness can be adjusted directly through the icons, although personally I prefer the shooting mode in this spot. Now, if you want to change the shooting mode, you will have to go to the settings menu, shooting mode and then select macro. Far too many steps as far as I'm concerned. And there is no indication whether or not you have succeeded in activating the Macro mode. Furthermore, you can adjust resolution, add effects and select Smileshot. Smileshot does not completely work the way it should; it's only on the Samsung Pixon that I found it properly applicable.
Taking pictures with the Samsung Beat
3.2 Megapixel camera phone
The resolution of 3.2 Megapixel is not that high, yet for a mobile phone and its application, it does suffice. If we take a look at the pictures, the result is acceptable, or at least, if you manage to keep the phone stable while shooting. Particularly the pictures taken in macro mode prove extremely sharp and clear. The colors are also excellent and it is fun to capture moments this way. However, if you take pictures in circumstances where the light is not optimal, the pictures will soon suffer from noise. It's a matter of really watching the proper light circumstances to get the most optimal result with the Samsung Beat. In other words; just use the camera application when in nice weather.
