Creative Zen Mozaic test

C reative Labs is famous for its sound cards, CD/DVD players, mouse and keyboards, headphones and digital (portable) music players. Nowadays, Creative produces portable media players of the Zen en MuVo series. Creative has stopped the production of the MuVo series since the beginning of 2009. The Zen series has more potential, and Creative is continuously expanding and developing new ways to bring the multi media players to perfection, not only when it comes to music, but also their appearance. The Creative Zen Mozaic is a fine example of this striving. This player has all the features of the original Zen onboard and really stands out thanks to its almost unique appearance. The Creative Zen Mozaic proves that Creative is still experimenting with the appearance of its MP3 media players, and far from finished with the Zen series.

Design of the Creative media player

The design of the Creative Zen Mozaic is basically the same as that of the original Creative Zen media player. The main difference between the Zen and the Zen Mozaic is; its name already gives it away; a mosaic pattern on the front formed by the buttons. The structure of the buttons has not changed. Secondly, the Creative Zen Mozaic is smaller than its predecessors. The Zen Mozaic certainly is a head-turner, thanks to the mosaic pattern on its front. Almost all the people that saw me with the Creative Zen Mozaic asked what brand it was and where they could buy it. They really liked the design and the trendy appearance. The media player is available in black, silver and pink. You can also adjust the color of the MP3 player with pouches, so you can in fact turn a black device into a pink one. In addition to the remarkable pattern, the Zen Mozaic is everything you'd expect from a Creative Zen media player. It provides a music, video and picture mode. Moreover, this Zen features several additional functions, among which is the speaker on the back. The Creative Zen Mozaic is available with a memory capacity of 2, 4, 8 and 16GB. The Creative Zen Mozaic standard includes a USB cable, earphones, Creative Centrale software and a quick start guide.

Playing music on the Creative Mozaic

As you would expect from Creative, the Creative Zen Mozaic produces a high quality sound. It is a natural sound, and with the included earphones the music really shows to full advantage. The earphones fit comfortably into your ears and ensure the music comes across well without shutting off your ears entirely. I actually prefer these to in-ear plugs, because when cycling, for example, you can still hear the sounds around you, while at the same time listening to your own music. The background sounds are not disturbing and the music you play is always of high quality, wherever you are. The menu to search and play your music is the same as on all the other Zens of the Creative Zen series. You can go through the music by Album, Artist or song. This ensures you always find the right music and are able play it. The Mozaic media player features several extra music options, such as play mode and equalizer. The Zen Mozaic also features a DJ option. Upon activating this option, the Mozaic will play your songs in a certain sequence, like; music you hardly ever play, always play or music with the highest/lowest appreciation rating. This way, the Zen keeps surprising you. The Creative Zen Mozaic supports the MP3, WMA, WAV and Audible format 4.
