Main menu of the Sonim phone

The menu of the Sonim XP3 Enduro is quite simple and especially clear. Upon opening the main menu, 9 icons appear: Calls, Settings, MyFiles, Phonebook, Messages, Simptoolkit, Tools, Fast settings and WAP. In 'Fast settings' you can change the profile, and in 'Tools' you find options like calculator, stopwatch and agenda. The menu is not that extensive and therefore easy to get a hang of. Graphically, it is not that special, although the color screen is quite beautiful, generally everything is kept simple. However; every action is carried out smoothly and fast, the phone responds well and is able to keep up the speed during all processes.

Waterproof Sonim XP3 Enduro

Indestructible is a term that is usually associated with the Sonim XP3 Enduro. Naturally, anything can be destroyed, but the issues that would usually destroy an average mobile phone, the Sonim XP3 can deal with. The phone has a number of certifications, which makes it a truly unique handset. The phone is not only waterproof, but you can actually leave it dipped underwater for at least 30 minutes without any problem. Extreme temperatures aren't a problem either. During the testing period, I actually threw the phone around, even from a few meters up, and I kept it underwater more than once. The Sonim XP3 can really stand it all and no damage was noticeable.

Internet on the Sonim Enduro

The Internet browser on the Sonim XP3 Enduro, found in the main menu, is not that special, although you can make use of the Internet services. Due to the lack of support for 3G Internet speeds, surfing the Internet is slow. The Browser is not extensive at all and it is not clear whether or not it is loading at a certain point. The Internet functionality is clearly not the core feature of this phone. However, it is still easy to be able to check the latest news quickly or to find an address or phone number.

Sonim XP3 Bluetooth support

The Sonim XP3 Enduro also features the Bluetooth functionality. This enables transferring files to and fro the mobile phone. This means that it is possible to use a picture as background on the phone despite not having a camera in the phone. The internal memory is very limited with only 10MB, but you don't have to store that much on your phone. Additionally, the Bluetooth function also enables connecting the Sonim Enduro mobile phone to a Bluetooth headset or car kit.

Other features on the Sonim XP3 Enduro

The Tools in the main menu provide an audio recorder in addition to a clear agenda, stopwatch and calculator. It enables you to make recordings and transfer these to a computer if required. Even during a call, you can record, which could come in handy for important calls. This is a feature not often found on a mobile phone. Additionally, everything can be synchronized with the computer through the included data cable. It's quite remarkable that there is no software included with the cable, which makes it impossible to use it if you don't download the necessary software from the Internet. After that, however, synchronizing is no longer a problem.

Sonim XP3 Lithium Ion battery

The Sonim XP3 Enduro has a superb standby time. The specifications claim that the phone should be able to provide a standby time of a maximum of 22 hours with the included 3.7V 1180mAh Lithium-Ion battery, and a talk-time of 5.5 hours. The handset does not feature too many enhanced functionalities that would strongly affect the standby time. Making and receiving a call now and again, the phone will last for almost a week, without having to recharge it. And in case of regular use, it should probably last three to four days.
