Sony Walkman review

S ony was founded on the 8th of May in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. It wasn't until the company changed its name to Sony Corporation that things really started to take off in the United States of America. Today, Sony is a renowned company because of its Sony Playstation, Sony VAIO computers, television sets, digital cameras and, of course, the new Sony Walkman series. The Sony Walkman NWZ-S639F belongs to the S-Series and is, just like its siblings of the A-series, equipped with a thin design and a music, photo and video mode. One thing the S-series does feature whereas the A-series does not, is the SensMe function. Read our review to learn everything there is about the Sony NWZ-S639F and the SensMe function.

The dimensions of the Sony NWZ-S639F are 3.3 inch x 1.5 inch with a depth of 0.27 inch. The first notable thing about this Sony media player is the fact that it is extremely thin. The monitor is placed on the front of the S639F with right below it, the navigation keys. The USB connection including the 3mm headset jack is positioned at the bottom, whilst the 'hold' slide bar to lock the keys and the volume buttons are found on the side. Despite its flat appearance, the Sony features everything you may expect from a media player. It enables you to play videos, pictures and music in the usual formats: MP3, AAC, WMA (DRM), AVC, MPEG-4 and JPEG. Other features of the S639F MP3 player are: the bright 2 inch QVGA LCD monitor, Clear Audio techniques, SensMe channels and no less than 16GB of storage space. The Sony Walkman comes with an in-ear EX headset, quick start guide, trouble shooting, Sony Media Manager and an adapter stand. The S639F MP3 can be fully adjusted to your own preference, thanks to the availability of 10 different themes and the possibility of using every picture as a background. Moreover, there are so many options that it will make every media player unique and completely adapted to its user.

Sony Walkman music quality

The music quality that this media player reaches is typical for Sony: a full and clear sound. Every song is played in a very high quality, thanks to the audio options the S639F offers. The Sony NWZ-S639F delivers a superb music reproduction. The EX ear plugs that are included with the Sony, fit nicely in your ear and are fine-tuned to the media player. The bass shows at its full advantage. The availability of a good equalizer with 4 preset options and 2 private settings ensures you will always find the best settings for every song. In addition to the equalizer, the NWZ-S639F offers VPT surround option, which makes it possible to emulate situations such as a concert building, club or studio. DSEE sound enhance improves the quality for many songs and reminded me somewhat of the X-Fi technology by Creative. Clear Stereo is extremely handy if you connect the media player to external speakers, in which case the stereo sound becomes even better. Last but not least, the Sony media player features a Dynamic Normalizer that makes sure songs are played at the same volume by increasing or decreasing the volume. Of course, the NWZ-S639F offers the usual play options such as: play, shuffle, repeat all, repeat one etc.
