Listening to music on the Pixon M8800

The multimedia player of the Samsung Pixon is not too special. The graphics are not on a high level and only a few options are available. It does offer a music recognition function, TrackID as we know it from Sony Ericsson. This function records part of a song, links it to a database and then comes up with the name and artist of the song playing at that time. This comes in handy if you like the song you're listening to but you don't know the singer. While playing video files, you can rotate the phone and the video will (smoothly) rotate too, upon which full screen is activated. A built-in speaker or the included headset can be used to listen to the sound. The speaker is fine and the in-ear headset fits and stays nicely in your ears. It allows for connecting any headset you like, since it consists of two items. You can detach the standard headset which leaves you with a general 3.5mm jack connection.

Samsung Pixon Software

Samsung PC Studio software

The small CD that comes with the Samsung Pixon contains software to connect the Pixon with a computer. This time it's the Samsung New PC Studio. And NEW certainly is the word to be used here. The PC Studio has drastically changed, graphically as well as in its use; both in a positive way. A clear explanation is given upon starting PC Studio, and all the functions are clearly displayed. Unfortunately, transfer of data has remained as slow as on the previous version. You can manage the agenda in PC Studio without having to connect the phone. As soon as the phone is connected, you have to select synchronize and all data will be updated.

Stand-by time of the Samsung Pixon

According to the specifications, the 3.7V 1000mAh Lithium-Ion battery should provide a maximum standby time of 290 hours and a talk-time of 3.4 hours. The standby time is simply excellent; I didn't make that many calls, but I was able to use the phone for 3 days before having to recharge it. If the camera application is used frequently, the standby time drops drastically. On the other hand; I did not use the Internet so often while there is no WiFi available, which adds positively to the standby time.

Samsung Pixon Memory

Samsung Pixon Memory

Mobile memory card support

The internal memory of the Samsung Pixon M8800 is 200MB. This only lasts for storing a few pictures of 2 or 3 MB. Luckily, the memory is expandable via a microSD/SDHC memory card. A memory card of 1GB is standard included and if this is still not enough, you can purchase a larger memory card. The Samsung Pixon M8800 supports memory cards up to 8GB. It is advisable to purchase a memory card with a lot of capacity, since you want to be able to store music and videos as well as pictures on the Pixon.
