Samsung Pixon review | Digital Camera
Samsung Pixon digital camera
8 Megapixel camera
The main feature of the Samsung Pixon M8800 is of course the integrated 8.0 Megapixel digital camera. The back appears to be a genuine digital camera, also because of the extending lens. The camera application should be activated by the menu or the shortcut on the right side of the Pixon. The lens cover will automatically be removed upon activating. It quickly allows you to take a picture. Moreover, the automatic lens cover is a nice additional option. The shutter lag is only minimal when framing and actually capturing a picture.

Samsung Pixon camera settings
While taking a picture, the entire screen serves as a viewfinder. There is hardly any delay and the pictures are very well visible on the screen. Furthermore, there are a number of shortcuts on the screen to change settings. The flash and capture mode are easy to change with one press on the button, and even during shooting these settings can be changed in a swift and easy way
Smile Shot on the Samsung M8800
Samsung Pixon face recognition feature
In addition to many standard settings, the camera also offers face recognition and the smile shot function. While taking a picture, the camera application will recognize a face and you can add a name to it. If you apply face recognition to the captured pictures, and if a picture was previously stored, the name of the person will appear on the pictures. Smileshot works better on the Pixon than on other mobile phones I have used. First, you will see face recognition and next, a frame will appear around the mouth, providing there is a smile, after which the picture is taken instantly.

ISO value settings
The quick menu makes all the settings easily accessible during shooting. Only changing the resolution, white balance and the ISO values require you to access the menu slightly deeper. All the setting possibilities of the other options are displayed on the screen immediately after selecting an option such as scene mode. ISO sensitivities are available up to ISO 1600. For general shooting I advice settings to a maximum of ISO 400. Higher ISO values provide strong color noise and the internal noise reduction has a bad effect on the sharpness of the pictures. On the other hand, a higher ISO value does at least offer you the possibility to capture a certain subject.
Samsung Pixon camera
T he camera application of the Samsung Pixon is strikingly good, especially considering it is a camera phone. It offers many settings which are also easily accessible. The Smileshot and face recognition are well applied and additionally, GPS data can be added to a picture via the GPS receiver. The quality of the pictures is sufficient, although an average compact camera still provides a better quality. There is quite a bit of noise visible, certainly at full size, which goes for pictures taken up close as well as large compositions. We also noticed rather strong distortion, which at times caused the straight lines of a composition to appear incorrectly in a picture.
