Samsung Pixon Widgets
Samsung Pixon Menu
The Samsung Pixon runs on Samsung’s operating system. The mobile phone is very user-friendly and everything is carried out smoothly. The main screen contains several shortcuts. Pressing a button once calls up the numeric keypad to select a number and there are shortcuts to the contact list, message menu and, of course, the main menu. In addition to the shortcuts, the Pixon's main screen also displays Widgets. Widgets are similar to shortcuts, but they are hidden in a vertical bar that is folded in. If you open this bar, you can select a Widget and drag it to the main screen. This is an easy way to access the weather report or your pictures. You can leave the Widgets visible on the main screen, allowing you to personalize your screen.
Samsung Pixon Cell phone menu
Samsung Pixon Photo browser
The main menu consists of twelve icons, which makes it easy to find all the functionalities. In addition to standard menu options such as settings and messages, the Pixon offers a Google shortcut and a Photo browser. The Photo browser allows for a quick search through your captured pictures in alphabetical order. If you haven't renamed your pictures, they are all under the same letter, which still allows you to go through them a lot quicker while you can slide them and do not need to open a different file all the time.
Samsung Pixon Internet
HSDPA & Wi-Fi Internet
The Samsung Pixon standard features a fairly simple Web browser. Inserting a URL is similar to inserting an SMS text message; tilting the phone a full keyboard will appear. The Samsung Pixon supports HSDPA which creates a nice speed for the Internet connection. Unfortunately, Wi-Fi is not available on the Pixon, although it would have been a good addition. Certainly as the Pixon is not a genuine Internet phone and thus does not always come with an internet bundle, WiFi availability would have been nice to gain Internet access every now and again. The browser is fine for standard use, such as viewing the news and emails, but for watching full websites, I prefer a different type of web browser such as the Internet Explorer Mobile or Opera.
Samsung Pixon Shortcuts
Samsung M8800 Key lock button
The Samsung Pixon offers several shortcuts on one side, to allow quicker operation of various actions. There are volume buttons, a camera button, a shortcut to view the captured pictures, a button to open the quick menu and the key lock. The key lock button is on the left side and sticks out slightly. Unlocking the Pixon only takes one press, and this, together with the fact that the button sticks out, is the cause of accidentally unlocking the key lock at times. Unintended calls are bound to happen.
Google & GPS navigation
A s mentioned before, Google is accessible by a shortcut in the main menu. This shortcuts gives access to the Google search engine itself, to Gmail and Google Maps. Google maps is the only application that can be used with the built-in GPS antenna. This means the Samsung Pixon is unable to be used as a full voice navigation system. Google Maps can be used as city map or route planner only. Additionally, an internet connection is required, although it is wise to only use this function if the phone has an internet bundle in the cell phone plan.
