Samsung i8510 review | Digital Camera
Samsung i8510 digital camera
8 Megapixel digital camera
It may be clear; being the first 8.0 Megapixel digital camera on a mobile phone for the European market is an important feature of the Samsung i8510. The camera application can be activated by pressing the record button. The slide button on the right side lets you select what's next; the video camera, the photo camera or display of the captured pictures or videos. It works exactly like on a regular digital camera. It is easy although annoying at times if you want to make a quick snapshot and the slide button is still on the wrong application.

Activating the digital camera
Upon activating the camera, the lens cover is automatically removed; this is very pleasant to work with and looks quite cool. Starting the camera application is quite fast. The entire screen is used as viewfinder and has a swift response. Even when you slide the phone to close it, the camera remains on, however, when still open, it is just a tad easier to hold it with two hands, preventing blurred pictures due to movements of the photographer's hand. Focusing takes quite a while as usual, however, the focus does turn out extremely accurate. Also in macro mode up close.

Adjusting digital camera settings
There are many possibilities to adjust settings. The arrow buttons serve as shortcuts for the flash, the capture mode, self-timer and contrast. These settings are quickly accessible, also right before capturing a picture. The remaining settings are found under options; a menu will appear that lets you change resolution and effects, among other things. If you want to adjust the more specific settings such as ISO value, you can go to the option menu; Settings. Theses settings are found on a deeper level.
Flash on the Samsung i8510
Making pictures with the Samsung INNOV8
Pictures taken with the Samsung i8510 are on a par with pictures made with a standard digital compact camera. Even pictures taken from a car turn out quite well. The default settings suffice in most circumstances to come up with a good picture. If you want to shoot in badly lit circumstances, you will find the flash isn’t all that good; it's just a LED light. I would have preferred a xenon flash at my disposal. The only thing to do is adjust the ISO values. In general, the camera is very pleasant in practice and compared to other mobile phones, the pictures turn out excellently.
Samsung INNOV8 ISO
T he white balance of the Samsung i8510 shows nice results. The i8510 is quite effective when it comes to filtering out color cast in order to obtain a neutral exposure. In an environment with an overflow of incandescent light, it becomes more difficult and the effect of color cast will increase. One could call the increased ISO a marketing hype. Sensitivities up to and including 1600 ISO seem to appeal to the photographic orientated user, though, in practice, the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Up to ISO 200 the picture is reasonable, however from ISO 400 noise increases significantly and the image quality drops drastically.
