Samsung INNOV8 review

A mobile phone & digital photography have become so intertwined over the past few years, that there's no possibility of ever separating them again. A camera simply belongs on a cell phone. It started several years ago with a simple VGA camera, after which it soon became possible to shoot high resolution pictures with a mobile phone. Nowadays, one can tell whether the camera has priority on a certain mobile phone, and naturally this also shows in the communication possibilities. One example is the C902 of Sony-Ericsson,; whilst the Xperia was brought into the market a lot later, its camera specifications aren't half as good as those of the C902. Of course, this is partially marketing strategy; however, sometimes cameras with lesser specifications do turn out to take better pictures. This is also because the quality not only depends on the amount of megapixels the camera offers. It's obvious we're in for some surprises as far as cameras inside mobile phones are concerned. Currently, the shutter delay is being dealt with and there are already cell phones available that offer an optical zoom.

Samsung i8510 review

With the i8510, Samsung has the scoop here, since it is the first mobile phone on the European market that boasts an 8.0 Megapixel digital camera.

First impression of the Samsung i8510 INNOV8

The Samsung i8510 INNOV8 comes in a small square box. A few pictures of the mobile phone are displayed on the package and the main functions are emphasized; the 8.0 Megapixel digital camera, the 8GB memory and the WiFi functionality. The package is rather plain. Inside the box, the Samsung i8510 is found in a foam holder, immediately displaying the phone as you open the box. Upon removing the phone, the accessories appear from underneath the phone. Standard included are a headset, an extremely short data cable, a battery charger, manuals and a software CD. Perhaps the only thing lacking is a pouch.

Samsung INNOV8 test - Phone design

The mobile phone has a shiny black front and underneath the fairly large screen, a number of buttons are found. The camera is nicely integrated in the back, which gives the phone the appearance of a digital camera. Upon sliding open the handset, a common keypad appears. The buttons are easy to operate and look neat. On the whole, the phone is quite large, particularly when open. However, it is not all that annoying, since you don't notice it when the phone is inside your trouser pocket.
