Samsung Omnia review | Multimedia & Memory
Samsung multimedia
T he Samsung Omnia i900 features two mediaplayers; the Windows Media Player and a standard player of Samsung. The advantage of the Media Player is the familiar appearance, although the Samsung player is easier to use, also thanks to the large buttons. Many formats are supported, even DivX. You can simply enjoy all your favorite movies. Unfortunately, the resolution of the screen is somewhat less than for example that of the Sony Ericsson X1. And this is apparent when watching movies. The included headset is of excellent quality, it is the In-ear headset that I am familiar with as Bose for the iPod. The headset shuts out all the environmental noise which lets you enjoy your music even more. The headset consists of two elements, so if you don't like In-ear headsets, you can use any other headset with a 3.5mm jack.
Samsung Omnia memory
SanDisk microSDHC memory
The internal memory of the Samsung Omnia is 8GB. However, it is like a hard drive inside the phone that is separately accessible. The standard memory of the phone itself is a little over 100MB and you have to take into account that similar to the use of a memory card, the 8GB is not always used at the same time. You might receive an alert to tell you that the memory is full, which is rather annoying. If it is the 8GB memory that is actually full, you can enhance the memory with a microSD/SDHC memory card. To change the memory card, you have to remove the battery first. And the memory compartment looks like that of a SIM card; you have to slide the memory card in, which is not always too good for the card since it is hard to get it right the first time.
Samsung Omnia battery
Samsung Lithium Ion battery
The 1440 mAh 3.7V Lithium-Ion battery should offer a maximum standby time of 300 hours according to the specifications and a maximum talk-time of 4 hours. Whilst testing, making five calls a day, a couple of hours of radio/MP3 listening and some Internet browsing, I had to recharge the battery daily. However, normal use should offer a standby time of two to three days. If you're on the road a lot and using the phone as navigation system, you’re better off purchasing a car charger. Unfortunately, the software CD did not come with the test sample I received, so I was unable to test this.
