Samsung Omnia interface

S amsung has equipped the Omnia with a separate interface, as we see more and more often on new Windows Mobile phones. This is noticeable for the folding-in list with so-called Widgets, found on the main screen. Widgets are shortcuts to, for example, the MP3 player. If you click on a Widget and slide it away from the shortcut list, the attached program opens. Furthermore, the Omnia not only carries a start bar on top, but also a main menu button at the bottom. This menu is similar to the menus Samsung uses on the F480 and the Pixon, with fairly large pictograms. If you click on settings for example, it will make you enter the well-known Windows Mobile again. In fact, these are also some type of shortcuts, only not leading to programs but to menu functionalities in this case. The Widgets and the additional main menu make the use of the Omnia easier and more appealing.

Samsung Omnia smartphone operation

The Omnia features a large touchscreen which is easy to operate. It does not require pressing hard, and the phone responds pleasantly fast. Operating the phone with your fingers is quite alright to do, however, sometimes you do need the stylus pen and that is a minus, while the stylus pen is not integrated in the Samsung Omnia i900. Although the pen is included, you have to attach it to the phone as we see on the LG Viewty. The male part of the population hesitates to do so since it simply doesn't look right. It means you have to use your fingers which annoys at times when the stylus pen is required. It's a pity you can't just hide it inside the mobile phone.

In addition to using the touchscreen to operate the Samsung Omnia i900, a threesome buttons below the screen can be used too. The answer/confirm button, the navigation button and the end call button. The navigation button also works as a joystick when sliding your finger over it. The Omnia does not feature a full keyboard, all entry is carried out through the screen. However, you can activate some sort of T9 function, which makes a normal keypad available that is easier to operate than the full QWERTY keyboard on the screen.
