HTC S740 battery
T he 1000mAh battery of the HTC S740 offers a maximum standby time of 280 hours according to the specifications. And this figure is correct if you leave the smartphone on your bedside cabinet. However, when used frequently, the battery life shortens a lot sooner, of course. Energy consuming functions are mainly Wi-Fi, GPS, Internet use, call function and digital camera. Yet, I was still able to use the mobile phone and these applications for a minimum of three days. It being a strong battery is also noticeable for its weight. The cell phone is rather heavy, certainly compared to current phone standards.

Upon the first glance on the screen, everything looks smooth. However, the icons in the main menu appear to be somewhat childish and look like they’ve been made for a 16bit game computer. A large amount of information and setting possibilities are displayed in standby mode. For example, the inbox of your email and text messages. In addition, the possible Wi-Fi connectivity and weather updates.

As I mentioned before, the HTC S740 works with operating system Windows Mobile 6.1. A start button, similar to the one found on the computer, will give you access to the main menu. You won’t see all the programs directly, though; you are shown an overview of the nine most recently selected applications. From there, you can click on to the remaining programs. A downside of this structure is that applications are never displayed at the same spot, which will make you have to scroll through the menu a lot.

T he built-in GPS of the HTC S740 allows you to locate your current spot within seconds. Next, you can decide a route through Google Maps and navigate to the selected destination. A pity of this GPS function is that preinstalled navigation software is lacking on the phone. It means you have to keep the Internet connection open in order to be able to use the GPS. The accuracy of the GPS is not completely optimal, there is a small deviation, although not disturbing in practice.
