LG T80 review | Multimedia Functions
LG Touch DVB T80 MP3 player
Excellent music quality
I was so impressed by the DVB function; I did not expect much from the sound of the T80. However, that is just what it did: the sound surprised me pleasantly. The included in-ear-plugs, lightweight and with a comfortable fit, serve greatly and the LG delivers excellent music quality. An Equalizer and 3D sound option are also available on the T80. The Equalizer does its job well and every preset option of the Equalizer does actually optimize the sound for the genre you're listening to. It is nice to hear the tones being produced in harmony for classical music, whilst the 'dance' setting emphasizes the bass. Also available are the Bass-boost and 3D sound options. The latter allows you to imitate the sound of a discotheque, theatre or even a small room, for example. 3D Sound is fun, but not as handy and useful as the Equalizer. The supported music formats of the LG T80 are: MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV.

Touchscreen of the LG T80
In the beginning I really had to get used to the touchscreen of the LG T80. I frequently had to touch the screen twice before getting to where I wanted to go. What's striking though is that the longer you use the T80, the more user-friendly the media player becomes. After using the device for a while, you sort of get the hang of it, and it hardly occurs that you have to touch the screen more than once. The screen of the T80 also offers a number of shortcuts for example: going to the next song where you just have to move your finger from left to right and vice versa to go to the previous song. If you keep your finger on the screen at the end, the media player will rewind or wind in the song currently playing. Second thing that stands out is the brightness, as well as the sharpness and color contrast of the screen. Watching television or a movie is ever so pleasant while the screen renders fluently and flawlessly.

Listening to the radio
There are two ways to listen to the radio on your LG T80; through the menu or via DVB. Through the menu will offer you a standard radio interface with the necessary information. This option is not too advanced and is similar to all MP3 radio functions (lots of noise, no station information, nor does it offer the same music quality as an MP3). The second and better choice is via DVB. You have to select DVB in the menu and switch from TV to Radio mode. This offers every available radio station in the area without noise and with the information about the station and, if available, also additional information such as the play schedule. Just like DVB-T, three radio stations are free and all the others you will have to pay for.

Watching a movie
Converting / transferring entire movies or videos is enabled by the included software LG Media Centre 2.0. Converting files is easy and you don't need an additional converting program. There is a choice between the following qualities: Medium, High and Ultra. There is actually a noticeable difference between the three options. Using Medium, some of the sharpness is lacking, however, in Ultra, the reproduction is incredibly clear and even better than in DVB mode. The screen keeps surprising me, more so because the LG T80 has a feather-light weight, yet is able to offer such high image quality. The supported video formats are: MPEG and AVI although you don't have to take these into account, since you have to convert your files first with the LG Media Centre.

LG T80 Photo viewer
Although the photo viewer on the LG T80 works well and does exactly what it's meant for: reproduce pictures, to me it is the least interesting option of the MP3 player. Transferring pictures is fast with the included software, just as is the case for movies. However, there is no converter available for pictures, so if you own a different format than the standard JPEG, you have to convert this yourself. The screen reproduces the pictures beautifully and naturally. In short, it is a well thought-out function offering sufficient possibilities to share your pictures with friends and family, however, it is a lot less interesting than the T90 media player's remaining options. I was already so impressed by the DVB and video functions that it made the pictures look so very common.
Reading text on the LG DVB T80 multimedia player
In addition to DVB, pictures, movies and music, the LG T80 is also able to read texts. You can transfer .txt files from your computer and view them anywhere. There are also several reproduction options available, although not too advanced. The list of possibilities with the T80 keeps on growing and although it is a pity you cannot edit the text and store it, it is still a nice feature. It enables you to view a to-do-list, check your agenda or read a story wherever and whenever you like.
