BlackBerry Bold phone menu

You will find several shortcuts on the main screen of the BlackBerry Bold, just like previous models. Upon opening the menu, a huge list with 26 icons appears on the screen. On one hand, this is rather inconvenient while everything is displayed at the same time, on the other, it saves you having to scroll through the entire menu if you're searching. The first few days you will find yourself selecting every icon time and again to remind yourself what it served for. Soon though, you will remember and you will be able to find your way in the menu, which proves to be a steady and solid operating system. The only thing I don't get is why the structure of the menu, neat and sleek, is not carried out in the settings menu, as you will now find a simple boring black text on a white background. This is a pity, since it makes things rather disharmonic.

Microsoft Office files

The BlackBerry Bold smartphone includes business functions such as displaying Microsoft Office documents. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files can be opened and viewed with the BlackBerry applications, Word To Go, Sheet To Go and Slideshow To Go. The preinstalled versions only allow you to view the documents. If you want to create a new document or adjust an existing one, you have to switch from the standard version to a paid premium version.

2 Megapixel digital camera

The integrated camera of the BlackBerry Bold 9000 has unfortunately remained untouched compared to its predecessor, the BlackBerry 8800. It's a 2.0 Megapixel digital snapper. Obviously, no effort was put into improving it. I suppose the business user won't mind since he/she cares for the other functionalities. However, if BlackBerry aims at a larger, broader group of consumers with this Bold 9000, this digital camera could be considered a minus.

Shooing photos with the BlackBerry 9000

The pictures are alright, although easily blurred. The amount of settings is rather restricted; only resolution can be adjusted, and when it comes to effects you can choose from black/white and sepia. The camera application does have a swift start-up though, pressing the shortcut button once does it, and the shutter delay is not too bad either. This is due to the lack of an auto focus; no focus is carried out. Lack of the auto focus is a pity. It is a matter of being at the right distance whilst capturing the picture in order to get a sharp one.
