Nokia N96 review | Multimedia Functions
Mobile internet on the Nokia N96
Nokia N96 Internet browser
The default Internet browser inside Symbian software is familiar from previous models and works the same way. The large monitor and the fast HSDPA connection possibility make the N96 perfectly suitable for using the Internet. In addition to the use of the Internet through the network, it is also possible to connect a wireless network via WiFi. If WiFi is activated, the available networks are clearly indicated.
Nokia Maps navigation application
Navigate with the Nokia N96
The well-known Nokia Maps application is standard found on the Nokia N96. The internal GPS combined with maps and a license can serve as navigation system. Unfortunately, the license for a full navigation system has to be purchased separately. The Nokia Maps applications are fairly user-friendly and work best in combination with a data bundle, since it requires data traffic at times.
Nokia N96 Memory
T he Nokia N96 has an internal memory capacity of 16GB, which lets you put all your favorite movies and music files on the N96 right after purchasing the cell phone. If you find 16GB is not enough, you can expand the memory capacity by purchasing a microSD / SDHC memory card. These are not standard included, however; given today's prices it should not be a problem to purchase some additional GBs of storage capacity.
Nokia N96 Lithium Ion battery
Standby time of the Nokia N96
Nokia delivers the N96 including a 3.7V 950 mAh Lithium Ion battery type BL-5F. According to the specifications, it should allow for a maximum standby time of 220 hours and a talk-time of 220 minutes. If the Nokia N96 is used in a common way, the battery lasts only around two or three days, just like other mobile phones of this type. In particular when the mobile television or the navigation function is used. However, considering the fact that there is a car charger in the box, which enables recharging the battery on the go, standby time is not a limit whilst travelling.
Nokia N96 software
Nokia PC Suite software
In order to synchronize the Nokia N96 with a computer, Nokia PC Suite comes with it, just like with other Nokia mobile phones. This software enables transferring pictures and music files to and fro the device, manage contacts and synchronize the agenda. Managing pictures and video files does not require installing the software, since you can set the phone in mass storage mode when connecting the Nokia N96 to the computer. This way the 16GB of the N96 serves similar to a USB stick. In addition to PC Suite, there are many other programs available on the included software CD, to update the software of the handset or to edit video and music files.
