BlackBerry Pearl GPS navigation

BlackBerry Pearl GPS navigation

Built-in GPS receiver with POI function

The built-in GPS receiver makes the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 useful as a full navigation system. The navigation is clear and graphically nicely displayed. Not only standard navigation is possible, there is also the built-in function called POI (point of interest), which lets you retrieve standard inserted categories ranging from closest restaurants to cash dispensers. Very convenient if you are in an unfamiliar environment. You can also call up the weather forecast for your destination or current position and there is the option of making travel logs.

Phone book linked to navigaton system

A nice option is that the Phonebook and the Business guide are linked to the navigation. They can be accessed through the navigation menu. If you are looking for a company or a person, you can start the navigation at the same time. Whilst travelling, the traffic information is taken into consideration so that you can travel as efficiently as possible, even speed cameras are pointed out, and if you are still speeding shortly before passing by a speed camera, you will be alerted again. This way the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 will save you from getting a speeding ticket although it is of course better to simply stick to the speed limit.

BlackBerry 8110 Multimedia

O ther than most menu functions, the media player seems to be treated and constructed with more care as far as graphics are concerned. Strange, since this is only an additional function on the BlackBerry Pearl 8110. On the other hand the media player is easy to work with. The media player menu contains pictures, music and video files, ringtones and voice recording. The sound coming from the built-in speaker is extremely good compared to many other mobile phones. The included headset also lets you enjoy multimedia files.

3.7 Lithium Ion battery

The standard 3.7V Lithium Ion battery should be able to offer a standby time of 360 hours and a talk-time of 4hours. I was able to use the BlackBerry for just over one day with two hours of navigation, frequent calls and taking the occasional picture. For the business user with extensive email traffic and other use, a travel charger is certainly advisable.

Phone software for the Pearl 8110

The included BlackBerry software immediately synchronizes the used email programs on the pc with the BlackBerry. Even the agenda functions can be linked. If you connect the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 to the computer without installing the software it is still possible to copy pictures and other files from the device onto the pc.
