Samsung F310 functions

T he Samsung Serenata will not surprise when it comes to additional functions. The basic functions like agenda, alarm, world clock, calculator, notes and media player to watch videos, are all simply there. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to play a WMV format on the handset, despite the fact that this phone is supposed to support this file format according to its specifications. Extras such as stopwatch, timer, digital camera and games are not available on the Serenata. Personally, I don't mind the lack of a digital camera since emphasis usually lies on either the camera or the MP3 function of a mobile phone. If the digital camera is a surplus product, you don’t expect much of it anyway as far as quality and setting possibilities are concerned. Nor is transferring pictures from a PC very appealing. A picture with a size of 650KB is already too large to transfer and the dimensions should be smaller than 1600 x 1200. Furthermore; an FM radio is lacking which is rather odd for a mobile phone that aims at music.

Samsung Serenata battery

Lithium-Ion battery

The included battery is found behind the cover on the back of the Samsung Serenata and can only be removed when the speaker of the cell phone is slid up. It concerns a 1000mAh 3.7V Lithium-Ion battery. According to the specifications, talk-time is 5 hours and standby time 250 hours. During the test, the battery lasted for five days before having to recharge it. In these five days I used the phone for calling, sending text messages and using the speaker.

4GB internal memory

Regarding the main function of the Samsung F310, which is listening to music, the handset features an internal memory of 4GB. It is not possible to enhance this memory, nor is it necessary to extend the memory with a memory card. In addition, over 1000 phone numbers can be stored in the phone book. There is room for 300 text messages, which is rather scarce for people like myself, who can't bring themselves to delete a message.

Samsung PC Studio software

A USB 2.0 High Speed connection allows to transfer files to and fro a computer. From the standby mode, you can connect with a PC via the 'More' menu. The process of file transfer is facilitated by Samsung PC Studio software. Various file managers are available; PC sync, MMS composer, multimedia player, network wizard and phone explorer / editor.
