Samsung i550 digital camera
3 Megapixel Samsung camera
The Samsung i550 features a 3.0 megapixel digital camera with auto focus. This amount of resolution is considered outdated these days, even on a mobile phone, and it is obvious that the camera function is not the main function of this cell phone. Despite the low resolution, the pictures made with the i550 are still quite reasonable. The colours are reproduced well, even when taking pictures in bright sunlight.

Large LCD monitor
Thanks to the large monitor, serving as a viewfinder, you can clearly see what you're about to capture. After taking a picture, it is slightly larger than what you saw on your screen, which adds some uninvited objects to the picture at times. An other downside of the camera, and a frequent phenomenon on many mobile phone cameras, is the fact that it is slow. If you want to take a picture, focus is carried out extremely slowly before the actual capturing happens. This makes it hard to capture spontaneous moments.

Samsung macro mode
The Samsung i550 lacks a macro mode, although I was surprised by how close I was still able to take nice pictures. The pictures are all neatly stored on the cell phone's memory card as desired; the name consists of the date and a sequence number of the picture itself. This makes it very easy to retrieve a picture.

The Internet browser the Samsung i550 features is easy to use. Thanks to the HSDPA support, and providing it is supported by the network, the connection offers a fine speed when using the Internet. Also when browsing, the large color monitor shows to the fullest. The lack of the Wi-Fi functionality is a minus for the Samsung i550 since this makes it impossible for you to connect to wireless networks.

The Samsung i550 lets you play music and video files flawlessly. The included headset features Samsung's standard connection, however, the top side of the Samsung i550 offers a general jacket connection which will take any desired headset to be connected to the cell phone. The multimedia players can be accessed through the menu or through the quick button on the right side of the TrackBall.
