5.0 Megapixel digital camera

The 5.0 Megapixel digital camera takes excellent quality pictures. The disadvantage of the camera, however, is that it responds rather slowly, as we find more often with Samsung mobile phones and also with the competitors. Activating the camera application, as well as capturing a picture is very slow with the Samsung U900 compared to, for example, the Sony-Ericsson cameraphones. Fast or spontaneous snapshots are therefore somewhat difficult, if not impossible, to make. This asks for improvement.

The quick buttons on the Magical Touchscreen at the camera application enable quick access to the self-timer, the flash and the macro mode.

You can adjust ISO values, adjust resolution and select various effects when shooting a picture. The Samsung U900 also features face detection.

The flash of the Samsung U900 surprised me in a positive way. Usually, the flash is a LED lamp that is activated upon opening the photo application. When focussing with the Samsung U900, a small light appears that becomes a lot brighter when a picture is taken. This gives a fine effective range. Up to a distance of approximately 3 meters, everything is visible to capture, even in plain darkness. The quality diminishes somewhat but thanks to this flash; you can still shoot pictures with the Samsung U900 in the complete dark.

Samsung U900 photos

T he pictures taken with the Samsung U900 are beautiful and of excellent colour. Especially when taken under the proper light circumstances. Even if they were taken from a distance. If you take pictures in twilight, you will notice your cell phone adjusting the colour, and the reproduction on the camera screen is thus optimised. These pictures seem to be as good as the pictures made in daytime. However, if you take a look at them on the computer, there is a vast difference. The pictures made in twilight are underexposed and less sharp due to movement blur caused by slow shutter speed. It is obvious that the mobile phone camera is having difficulties, and in these cases the difference between a regular digital compact camera and the cameraphone really becomes obvious.
