Easy to operate mobile phone
Operation of the Samsung G810 is easy thanks to the considerable size of the buttons, which are not only suitable for people with small fingers. Besides the navigation button, the G810 features two settable function buttons, a menu button and a player selection button. The latter allows you to have an overview of the available media players in one glance, among which the MP3 player, RealPlayer and Radio. Upon sliding open the phone, the numeric keyboard appears with a talk and end button. To make a change, a separate on/off button is placed on the side of the Samsung G810, as well as the shutter release button for the digital camera and the volume adjustment button that serves as zoom button during shooting with the camera.

A function that is not yet related to a mobile phone is route navigation. The Samsung G810 however, does come with a pre-installed Route 66 memory card that you only have to insert to be able to use the Mobile 8 navigation application. The Route 66 Software CD offers extra services such as live traffic information and travel guides of more than 500 destinations worldwide. Just insert the memory card into the Samsung G810 and navigate to every desired location in Western Europe.

Media functions on the Samsung G810
The Samsung G810 offers a special menu for the media functions. Here you find the music player which is easy to operate and supports MP3, AAC, as well as WMA formats. When the headset is connected you can also listen to the radio. Manual and automatic search for radio stations are available, and a large amount of 50 preset stations can be stored, in case your music taste is broad. The sound the earphone and speaker produce is bright and strong, and the quality remains excellent when turning up the volume. A great plus is the fact that you can use your own earphone thanks to the universal connection. Viewing videos or streaming content of the Internet is possible through the RealPlayer that is also found in the 'Media' menu. The RealPlayer supports 3gp, mp4, rm, ram, ra and rv formats. Even flash videos can be played with the Flash player. Video editing and ImageEditor offer you the possibility to be creative.

Samsung opted to equip the G810 with a more advanced camera than the average digital camera on a mobile phone. The 5 Megapixel resolution suffices to take relatively nice pictures with the G810. Items you'd expect to see on a digital compact camera, such as auto focus, a 3x optical zoom and flash, are therefore also available on the Samsung G810. The speed at which you can shoot, is slowed down due to the auto focus and the rather slowly optical zoom. However, the optical zoom remains a more welcoming feature than the digital zoom, since image quality is ensured this way. If you are less interested in taking high quality pictures, and just want to have the possibility available to shoot pictures and share these through a multimedia message or Bluetooth, this might also be the reason for you to purchase a cameraphone such as the Samsung G810 instead of a digital compact camera.

Whilst you shouldn't dare take close-ups with most cameraphones, the G810 features a macro mode that lets you capture objects from a very close distance, resulting in a sharp picture most of the time. Even face detection belongs to the standard possibilities of this device, surprisingly enough. Many settings such as the white balance, resolution, scene and effects are simply found in 'Options' and if this is not completely clear, the help function on the left function button can be of assistance. The self-timer could have been a nice option if only you could place the phone on its side. The 'settings' menu offers the more advanced options among which the ISO values, adjustable from 50 to a maximum of 800 ISO, image stabilization on/off, and the enhanced digital zoom. The last option should not be your first choice since it doesn't offer any surplus value and the quality of the picture diminishes considerably.

The quality of the pictures is excellent in various circumstances thanks to the versatile functions of the Samsung G810 camera. Afterwards, on the computer, you can zoom in reasonably well on well-exposed pictures. Natural colour reproduction and sufficient sharpness may be expected from these pictures however, they do not reach the level of the pictures taken with today’s compact cameras. The ImageEditor lets you adjust clearness and contrast of a picture, add filters and styles and rotate the picture or adjust its size.
