Menu of the LG KF600

When you slide open the LG KF600 both screens will light up. The small touchscreen displays six pictograms: the menu button with quick buttons for messages, the phonebook, the calendar, sounds and one to deactivate the touchscreen. The menu itself offers a choice from some nine icons directing to the associated functions. To enable scrolling through the menu you use the arrows that are displayed on the touchscreen at that moment. The touchscreen shows different icons all the time to select functions. When you take a picture the icons are placed horizontally which means you can hold the mobile phone in a way similar to a regular digital camera. The menu is easy to operate, thanks to the touch buttons that adapt to the menu. I had to get used to the idea of a Dual-screen, certainly at first. And since you touch the icons on the touchscreen, you may find yourself tempted every now and then to try and touch them on the common, non-touchable TFT screen only to find out that it doesn't work!

3 Megapixel digital camera

The integrated digital camera in the LG KF600 offers 3.0 Megapixels of resolution. Furthermore, the LG KF600 features flash and auto focus functions. The settings for the camera are somewhat restricted, besides a self-timer and multi-shot, the only relevant options for the camera are the resolution, quality and colour effects (sepia, black&white and negative). When you take a picture with the LG KF600, the captured picture remains visible on the screen. In order to take the next picture, the application has to start all over again. That is why it's not possible to shoot sequentially, and that might be very annoying at times. The picture quality of the LG KF600 is reasonable. Occasionally the colours aren't bright enough which makes it look like you have made a picture of a picture. To prevent blurred pictures you can select 'reduce jitter' in the settings menu. This option allows for taking a clear picture when the camera moves slightly. It's a positive feature in itself if it weren't for the electronic stabilization that requires a higher ISO sensitivity thus causing more noise in the photos.

Reviewing photos

T he LG KF600 has not been equipped with an optical zoom which means that (digital) zooming in is carried out at the cost of the quality. You might as well zoom in afterwards on your computer. The screen is a tad too small to display the pictures properly. This goes for shooting and reviewing the pictures. When viewing the pictures it takes too long for a picture to load on the screen, from the internal as well as the external memory. The picture appears hesitantly in five parts. What is nice though is the fact that when you zoom in, you will see the entire picture. A frame appears on the touchscreen that displays the part that is shown on the general screen. You can move the frame with your finger to have a detailed look on other areas of your picture, and zoom in further which reduces the size of the frame on the touchscreen. LG certainly make great use of the dual screen this way!
