Nokia N81 8GB Camera
N okia have chosen to equip the N81 8GB with a 2 Megapixel camera. The Nokia N81 8GB was introduced at the same time as the Nokia N95 8GB, but the latter got equipped with a 5 Megapixel camera. The quality of the N81's camera is rather low for a device in this price class, but since the price is a lot less than you have to pay for the N95 8GB, Canon had to compromise on something. The LED flash is situated right above the camera lens. It has a range of approximately one and a half meters. This limits photographing in bad light circumstances tremendously. You should not purchase the Nokia N81 8GB if you plan to take photographing with your mobile to a higher level. Despite the fact that photographing with mobile phones is still in its infancy, the camera on this phone is too limited.

Nokia N81 8GB Shutter lag
Unlike its big brother, the Nokia N95 8GB, the Nokia N81 8GB has a noticeable shutter lag. And writing the pictures to the memory also takes about a second. Considering the fact that the N81 8 GB has an internal memory at its disposal and the pictures have an average size of only 500KB, it takes too much time. Photographing in the evening is a real challenge. The limited range of the flash makes it very difficult, if not to say impossible, to take a well-exposed picture.

Nokia N81 8GB Picture quality
The picture quality flaws in many cases. It looks like the Nokia N81 8GB has difficulties reproducing accurate colours. There is a green shade that returns frequently in the pictures. These greenish colours appear in daytime as well as in the evenings. Adjusting the white balance does not offer a solution. In the evening high noise values are visible and even to such an extent that you cannot use the picture. Pictures taken in excellent light circumstances are fine with a reasonable sharpness. Printing these pictures certainly belongs to the possibilities.

Nokia N81 8GB Menu
Nokia obviously have the experience and know-how to equip even devices with a large number of functions with a clear and well-structured menu. And that goes for the Nokia N81 8GB too. We recognize the user interface from other phones that feature S60 3rd Edition. When programs are still active, it shows in the menu by means of a blue circle on the menu icon. This prevents the smartphone to function slowly down as a result of the used up RAM memory. The phone features an active standby mode. This means that the main screen shows a number of shortcuts.

Nokia N81 8GB Video player
The Nokia N81 8GB has been equipped with an enhanced music and video player. The multimedia keys make navigating through the menu a piece of cake. Besides that, the multimedia player has a lot in common with that of the 5700 XpressMusic. It is easy to copy music files to the cell phone through Bluetooth, USB or the Internet. Files that are added to the memory will be added to the multimedia library automatically providing permission was given beforehand.
