Samsung F700 review

Samsung F700 Menu

S amsung use their own operating system on the F700 as mentioned before. After activating the handset, you will see three icons on the main screen right next to the date and time; one for the menu, one to reproduce the keypad on the touchscreen and one to view the call history. In the centre a blinking quadrangle is visible and a foursome quick buttons appear when pressing it. I thought this a very convenient feature, for quickly accessing my messages or the Internet browser. However, you'll find this often on other phones too. The menu itself consists of twelve pictograms and when you slide your finger over the touchscreen, you will notice a horizontal and vertical bar moving with it. This makes the menu look very interactive.

Rotating screen

A s soon as you slide the phone open, the screen rotates. I only preferred this during writing text messages. For example; you scroll through the settings by sliding your finger from the top downwards, and when the screen is rotated, you can only see three options and scrolling is carried out in too big a step. If you have 10 possible options and you need to pick out the sixth, it is almost impossible. Viewing pictures is excellent on the Samsung F700. You select My files in the menu and then: My Pictures. The pictures are shown on the screen and you scroll through the pictures by sliding your finger over the screen.

Samsung F700 Digital camera

Samsung F700 Digital camera

3 Megapixel digital camera

The Samsung F700 has been equipped with two digital cameras. The front carries a small VGA camera, which mainly serves for video calls. The second camera, on the back, is more enhanced of course. The 3.0 Megapixel digital camera with auto focus as well as flash takes beautiful pictures. A minus is the shutter lag which makes the camera very slow. Sometimes I did not capture what I wanted to capture because I moved the phone before the picture was taken or because the object had gone from the composition before I was able to capture it. The flash has a rather limited effective range and is in fact a LED instead of a flash tube. Still the functionality of an internal flash is evidently apparent. I, myself didn't use it that much though. Moreover if you like to capture an object at a considerable distance, a flash like this creates some unwanted side effects.

While taking a picture a number of pictograms are visible on the screen for making adjustments to the camera settings. It's very easy to turn the flash and self-timer on or off by pressing the according icon while shooting. Furthermore pictures in black&white, negative or sepia effect are possible. Additional settings such as ISO sensitivities, picture quality and deactivating auto focus can be found also in the main menu.
