Playing music

The Sony Ericsson K850i is also the perfect phone for playing music. Listening to the radio, playing MP3 files; everything is possible. When you decide to listen to the radio you must use a headset since the latter functions as antenna. This is the case for most mobile phones. The normal MP3s can be played through the delivered headset as well as through the built-in speaker. I must say that the music quality is somewhat better when listening to it through the headset although the speaker is not bad at all and it lets you turn the volume up high.

TrackID function

Another nice option on the Sony Ericsson K850 is TrackID. This function is found in the Entertainment menu of the main menu. The cell phone is able to recognize songs through TrackID. For instance; when you're visiting some place and you hear a nice song that you don't recognize, you can use TrackID to find the song. Just start the application and a piece of the environmental music is recorded after which TrackID links the recorded sound fragment to a database. If available, the artist and song title will appear on your screen. I have tried this application a few times and I was astonished about the accuracy of the cell phone coming up with the correct data in various difficult circumstances. This service is free of charge other than the data costs for sending the fragment.

Flash memory

The Sony Ericsson K850i has an internal memory of 40MB. However, the handset is standard delivered with a memory card of 512MB. This is a welcoming addition because the 5.0 Megapixel camera delivers pictures with an average size of 1.4MB. If the additionally delivered 512MB do not suffice, you can enhance the storage capacity with a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card to no less than 8GB. This completes the mobile phone and you can store pictures and music files to your heart's content.

PC Suite software

Besides the included data cable the package contains a CD with software to connect the mobile phone to the computer. Sony Ericsson's PC Suite is mainly suitable for managing and synchronizing your agenda and for making backups. When the cellular is connected to a computer, you can select 'phone mode' to use it with PC Suite software or select 'mass storage' to use it as a USB stick. This enables fast transfer of pictures, videos or music files to and from the cell phone.

Lithium-Ion battery

The Lithium-Ion battery coming with the K850i lasts for 400 hours standby time of the cell phone or 9 hours talk-time according to the specifications. When using the mobile phone for making a couple of phone calls a day, the battery will last for three to four days. If however you take many pictures, listen to music a lot and use it with a Bluetooth headset or car-kit, naturally the battery runs out of power a lot quicker and might require a daily recharge.
