Creative ZEN Multimedia player
Creative ZEN Built-in microphone
The ZEN has been equipped with a built-in microphone that is situated on the top side, right next to the SD / SDHC card slot. The Microphone menu is small but useful. When navigating through this menu, it turns out you can only start and finish a voice recording here. A voice recording is possible up to a maximum of ten minutes. The recorded sound can be played back through the Music menu and is of good quality; the recorded conversation is clear and very well audible.
Creative ZEN Slideshows
Pictures on the Creative ZEN are rendered in a maximum of 16.7 million colours offering a great result. When you go to the Pictures menu, you can see the pictures already transparent in the background, very well done! The menu offers a slideshow but viewing the pictures sequentially also belongs to the possibilities. Furthermore you can review the most recently visited pictures through this menu. Reproduction quality of the pictures is superb. Thumbnails appear almost immediately on the screen.
Creative ZEN Music player
The Music menu offers the largest choice: Now Playing, Play lists, Albums, Artists, Genres, All songs, Recordings, Page marker and DJ. All songs can be rated. The submenu DJ lets you make a choice from the highest rated song, to not yet rated songs or to the last rated song etcetera. The many sorting options of this menu make it easy to find songs and to play them sequentially. Forwarding within a song is also easy and well-controlled.
Creative ZEN Multimedia player
Just like the other menu functions of the Creative ZEN multimedia player, the Videos menu is also very user-friendly. This menu lets you select from the following submenus; Video, TV, ZENcast and Last played videos. When watching a video, a bar is shown at the bottom of the screen with the name of the video, how long is has been playing and how long it still lasts. After two seconds this bar disappears and the video is reproduced full screen. The 2.5 inch LCD display is a tad on the small side to watch a whole movie, but it is compensated by the excellent video quality.
Creative ZEN Qwerty keyboard
The FM-radio menu can hold a maximum of 32 preset stations. You can also have the ZEN look for them automatically, which also works well, but you can also set them manually. You can give every preset station a different name and when you want to add a name, a QWERTY keyboard appears on the screen automatically. The sound quality of the FM-radio is fine and has no noise to it.
Creative ZEN SD / SDHC Memory card
The time and date can be set through the Extras menu. Besides that this menu offers an organizer to be used as an agenda. Contacts can be stored here too. The calendar, also available in this menu, is beautifully rendered and well-structured and clear. The next menu, Memory Card is only available when an external memory card is inserted in the ZEN. If this is the case, files from the memory card can be opened or deleted in this menu.
Creative ZEN MP4 player
If you want to know how much room there is still left on your Creative ZEN or if you want to know how many songs there are already on it, go to the System menu. It will offer you the recent status of the ZEN multimedia player. Also the settings for reproducing pictures, videos and playing music can be adjusted here to one's personal desires. Furthermore settings for the screen can be adjusted through this menu, for example; light, background and brightness. Quick links, passwords and language can be changed and besides that you can set the Creative ZEN back to its default settings.
