Gisteq Software installation

The name of the software included with the Gisteq DPL700 is Gisteq PhotoTrackr and comes on a mini CD. Installing the software is no big deal but configuration of it takes some more time. It needs an API code from Google Maps which requires filling out the website that you need for this API code. The website is not mentioned in the manual but we did some research and found out that it is the following website: http://maps.gisteq.com. All software functionalities are available after the correct API code is obtained.

Gisteq Photo GPS Carabiner

You can start shooting after you have synchronized the GPS Photo Locator time with the time on your digital camera. To activate the Gisteq PhotoTrackr DPL700, press the on/off button and keep it pressed down for one second after which an orange indicator will start blinking. One second later a green indicator will blink to show that it is connected with a GPS signal. After that I attached the PhotoTrackr to my trousers with the included carabiner. I took some pictures during a walk through the woods and went back to the computer to view the results.

Gisteq Foto Locator USB connection

Once the Gisteq PhotoTrackr is attached to the computer through the USB cable, uploading of data via the PhotoTrackr software is enabled. It only takes clicking twice; first click on 'Get route registration' and next on 'Download trip record'. The pictures that are taken should be transferred to the computer. Adding the photos to the PhotoTrackr data is enabled by clicking on 'Photo management' and then 'Photos' after which the pictures can be uploaded to the desired file.

Gisteq GPS Photo Locator 'flags'

The PhotoTrackr software adds the exact location and time to the picture. The entire route of your trip with the Gisteq DPL700 activated is revealed and flags mark the spots where the pictures were taken. Going over the flags with your mouse indicator makes the picture appear with the correct data, such as time, date and exact spot. The pictures can be viewed as a slideshow and it is also possible to give a quick overview from the route creating some sort of movie.

Gisteq GPS Sharing photos

It is ever so easy to share your pictures online on websites like Flickr, locr, Picasa Web Album or SmugMug with the Gisteq PhotoTrackr software. When a picture is selected you can use the "Share online!" button to upload the pictures directly to the desired photo-sharing website. You can select the required photo-sharing website in the software settings. All pictures shared online are easily accessible through the "My online photos" button. This button will automatically direct you to the website you are sharing your pictures on. Many photo-sharing websites, such as Flickr, also let you edit your pictures.

Gisteq PhotoTrackr Tagging function

Additional functionalities of the Gisteq PhotoTrackr are 'Auto Power On / Off' and the 'Tagging function'. 'Auto Power On / Off' offers the possibility of the PhotoTrackr deactivating itself automatically if for example it doesn't move for fifteen minutes and after that, when it detects movement it will activate itself again. The period of time can be adjusted manually or through the software settings. The 'Tagging function' can always be used, that is if the PhotoTrackr is turned on. This function registers when and where you have pressed the on / off button of the Gisteq 700 and gives you that information afterwards on the computer.
