Sony Ericsson camera

T he Sony Ericsson W910 has been equipped with a two Megapixel digital camera. Unfortunately Sony Ericsson did not equip the camera with an auto focus function nor flash. When the camera is activated, you will see a bar with settings at the bottom of the screen. You can quickly change every setting here. The Sony Ericsson W910i offers a picture correction function called Photo-DJ. Captured pictures can be corrected afterwards, for example the brightness, contrast and effects. The image gallery of the handset would have suited a device with a higher resolution camera. Meaning; the gallery is of a higher level than the camera. Enlarging a picture from thumbnail to full screen happens even faster than on the K850. At first I thought this was because of the lower resolution of the camera, but when I copied a high resolution picture from the K850 to the W910 it turned out not to be the case and it really is the W910 itself.

When you take pictures in bad light circumstances the value of the auto ISO setting will increase to keep the shutter speed sufficiently fast. Sadly this often results in pictures with high noise values. The Sony Ericsson W910i activates noise reduction to get rid of the noise. Very effectively noise is being removed from the picture but unfortunately it causes a great loss of detail too. The pictures show some sort of smeared effect and lose sharpness and detail. The colours however remain true to nature.

Sony Ericsson W910 Picture quality

Pictures taken in good light conditions turn out reasonable. The fixed focus starts working from around one meter. Unfortunately the picture loses its sharpness through the use of this fixed focus system. And the lack of an auto focus is a real failure. Since the camera hasn't got a flash either, it makes shooting in twilight and indoors rather difficult and in fact impossible without having to use the high ISO.

W910i Photo settings

T he Sony Ericsson offers many setting possibilities. In Picture mode you can choose from normal, panning, frames and burst. In burst mode the resolution is automatically decreased to 0.3 Megapixels. The white balance offers a choice from daylight, cloudy, fluorescent and bright light. Moreover some extra possibilities are offered to create various effects such as black&white, negative and sepia. After having taken a picture you can easily improve it through the Photo-Fix function. The Photo-Fix function lets you brighten your picture and improve the contrast. And you can also choose to edit your just captured picture in Photo-DJ.
