Samsung YP-S5 review | Functions
Samsung S5 Earplugs
T he included earplugs of the Samsung S5 are just as weird of design as the ones of its predecessor. The difference between the two earplugs is found in the position of the speakers. The S5 has its speakers placed on the spot that goes into your ears the deepest. This is not the case with the YP-K5. Despite the select design I found that the earplugs fitted my ear perfectly, but since there are no fittings included to adjust them to your own ears, it's hard to say if they will fit every person. The sound quality of these earplugs is in one word: fantastic! From low tones to high bass tones, every sound that comes from these earplugs in combination with the Samsung YP-S5 is of very high quality.
Samsung S5 Music player
Samsung YP-S5 - Videos & Pictures
The main disadvantage of the K5 MP3 player was the fact that it did not let you play videos but thankfully Samsung did something about it and they have equipped the new S5 with this function. Instead of the OLED monitor on the K5, the Samsung S5 is now equipped with a 1.8-inch TFT LCD monitor. The videos and pictures are of good quality; however the monitor with its 1.8-inch size is a bit too small for comfortable movie watching. Still I find it a valuable function that really adds a surplus value to this multimedia player.
Samsung S5 Touch-sensitive pads
Samsung YP S5 - Operation buttons
The S5 multimedia player does not offer average buttons, but has been equipped with touch-sensitive pads. For some people this is something they have to get used to, but after some experimenting with the Samsung S5, it will become very easy to operate the pads. A total of seven touch-sensitive pads are available on the front of the MP3 player. Four buttons are for navigating through the menu with in the centre a button to confirm the choice. The other two buttons are the menu button and the return button. To activate the Samsung YP-S5 the slide bar has to be slid to the right. When you slide it to the left, the buttons are locked which is just as handy when you carry the Samsung S5 around in your trousers pocket.
Samsung S5 Menu items
Samsung S5 - User friendly menu
The menu of the Samsung YP-S5 is very user-friendly and nicely structured by means of animations that accompany every menu item. The background can be adjusted manually and one can even choose from his own pictures. The various menu items are: Music, Videos, Pictures, FM Radio, Datacasts, Prime Pack, File Browser, Bluetooth and Settings. The Prime Pack menu offers additional functions such as Voice recording, Games, Alarm, World Time and Audio connection. It is easy to scroll through the menu using the touch-sensitive pads. When the navigation button is held down, you will scroll through entire pages rather than just one song which is very convenient.

Samsung S5 - Compatibility & Battery
The Samsung S5 multimedia player is capable of playing MP3, WMA, OGG and ASF music formats and MPEG and WMV video formats. The Bluetooth menu of the Samsung YP-S5 enables connecting to a mobile phone, headset or other Bluetooth device to transfer files. It is a very handy function when you are on a location without a computer and you desperately want to share files. The Li-Ion battery will hold up for some 24 hours when the music is played through the earplugs and some 4 hours through the speakers according to the specifications. Whether or not these times are correct we are unable to say because we used the YP S5 for various purposes but we guess the actual play-time is close to the 4 hours mentioned above.
