Samsung YP-S5 review | Introduction
Samsung YP-S5 review
D uring the year 2007 Samsung have placed various YP-series music players on the market. And the in January 2007 introduced YP-K5 has already seen its successor; the YP-S5 multimedia player. The K5 was known as a light MP3 player with a so-called slider system and a touch screen. In our review about the K5 we called it ‘a very innovative MP3 player’. As always there were some issues that needed improvement such as the Samsung K5 not offering video play function. We are curious to find out what additions the recently introduced Samsung S5 has to offer compared to its smaller brother, the K5. We will compare the two MP3 players in the following Samsung YP-S5 review as far as differences and similarities are concerned.
Samsung S5 Multimedia player review
Samsung S5 Multimedia design
The Samsung S5 multimedia player is available in a 2GB, 4GB and 8GB version. The version we have tested has an internal memory of 4GB at its disposal. The dimensions of the YP-S5 are 46.5 x 95.9 x 14.8 mm and the TFT LCD monitor measures 1.8-inch. With its weight of 78.7 grams the Samsung S5 is very light. Compared with its predecessor, the K5, the Samsung S5 is a tad more compact and lighter. The design has not changed much, it remained equally beautiful and it still is an innovative design. The slider function for activating the speakers works greatly and it also supports the multimedia player when placing it on a surface.
Samsung S5 Music player test
Samsung S5 Play music
Before we can listen to music, we have to upload our own music to the MP3 player via the included software. The software CD is easy to install and the software itself is easy to use. We were able to put more than 3GB of music on the Samsung S5 within fifteen minutes and after that we were able to start listening to songs. Flipping the YP-S5 open makes the music start to play through the speakers. Just as its predecessor, the sound of the speakers is of high quality. It would have been nice if we could turn up the sound a bit more, but for the size of these speakers, the level is great.
