SanDisk Sansa Shaker

S anDisk is an American company, founded in 1988 and currently the world's largest supplier of flash memory cards. Besides flash memory cards, SanDisk produces flash card based MP3 players. Some time ago we reviewed the Sansa C250 and after that SanDisk sent us the SanDisk Sansa Shaker MP3 player for reviewing. The Sansa Shaker is not so much an example of an abundance of functionalities in one device, but with its child-friendly design it is aiming at a special target group; the younger consumer of about 8 years of age. The SanDisk Sansa MP3 player is equipped with, especially for children, innovative and appealing possibilities such as the 'shake function, where the name SanDisk Sansa Shaker obviously stems from.

The first impression is the right one: this MP3 player has been developed for children. The Sansa Shaker is available in pink and blue with storage capacities of 512MB and 1GB. We have put the blue 512MB model, good for some 125 MP3 songs to the test. The package is very attractive for children. Apart from the SanDisk Shaker of course, it contains a Sansa headset, a 512MB Secure Digital (SD) memory card, a CD with the manual, a USB cable, an AAA battery, a quick guide in English and stickers to personalize the Sansa Shaker and to make it look even more beautiful to one's own taste. The dimensions of this compact cylindrical SanDisk Sansa MP3 player are 72x40x40mm which makes it fit perfectly in a child's hand.

The SanDisk Shaker MP3 player has only three operating elements; among them two white controller bands that can be turned from left to right. The top white band lets you adjust the volume and the bottom one lets you select the previous or next song. The third operating element is a round button to turn the Sansa Shaker on or off. Pressing this button for two seconds activates the MP3 player. To turn the player off again, you have to press the same button for around four seconds. Moreover; this round, luminous button contains the play and pause function and in combination with a 'shaking' movement it serves to select the previous or next song. A cover on the bottom of the Sansa Shaker offers access to the battery and SD memory card compartment and the mini USB connection by turning it. Furthermore two headphone jacks are positioned on either side and a built-in speaker is placed on top of the SanDisk Sansa Shaker.
