Software & File transfer

T he Samsung SGH-G600 has been provided with Samsung PC Studio 3 software. This software makes it possible to connect your mobile phone with the computer by means of a USB, Bluetooth, Infrared or serial connection. Once connected, there are multiple options, like; managing contacts, sending and managing SMS messages, synchronizing the mobile phone with your e-mail settings, managing files, making a MMS or reproducing multimedia files. In short: software to get the maximum out of your mobile phone. The connection via USB was rather fast on my laptop, transferring 75 images with a total size of 8MB took about 75 seconds. The Bluetooth connection was even a bit faster, copying the same images to my laptop took 70 seconds.

Samsung SGH-G600 - Menu

The menu of the Samsung G600 looks clear and ordered, just like we are used to with Samsung. When selecting an icon, the function of the icon is shown on the bottom of the screen. Because of this, even an inexperienced mobile phone user will understand quickly where each function can be found. The menu’s background can be adjusted to different themes; whether you like a menu with calm colors or a menu with a clear white background; everything is possible. If the standard themes are not sufficient, there is also a possibility to create your own theme.

The Samsung G600 features a nice MP3 player. You can listen to all your favorite music on the go. The test model was provided to us with a 512MB memory; when extending the memory, for instance to 2GB, you will have a true music centre right in your pocket. The sound quality can be called good, although I had to get used to the ear phone a bit. Different to standard ear phones, you have to push these into your ear canal instead of your ear shell. This does make sure that any surrounding sound is limited to a minimum. The ear phones are also used as an antenna for the FM Radio and needs to be connected when using the FM radio.

The Samsung SGH-G600 incorporates a 3.7V 900mAh Lithium Ion battery. According to Samsung, the battery has a stand-by time of 380 hours and a calling time of seven hours. The battery performs well, from what I could measure. When using the MP3 player, I was able to play music constantly for about nine hours, before I had to recharge the mobile again. Of course, when taking a lot of pictures and when the monitor is on a lot, it will reduce the stand-by time considerably; the battery will then have to be recharged after a few hours.

The monitor of the Samsung G600 is a sixteen million color screen. The quality of the monitor can be called good, the menu subjects are represented clearly. In general, when representing the images, there can be made a reasonable indication as to the photo’s quality. However, when there is a lot of contrast in the image the monitor of the Samsung G600 has difficulty to reproduce the image accurately. By transferring the images to a PC, an accurate evaluation of the images is possible.
