Nokia N76 - Camera

The camera of the Nokia N76 is a 2 Megapixel digital camera with a fixed focus lens and 20x digital zoom. The digital camera of the Nokia N76 can be activated by means of the menu or via the camera button on the right hand side of the device. If the camera is activated when the Nokia N76 is closed, the screen on the outside turns into the viewfinder. When the mobile phone is opened, the regular screen can be used to find the subject. Unfortunately, the camera in the Nokia N76 does not feature an auto focus.

Nokia N76 - Shutter lag

Nokia N76 - Shutter lag

Actually, like all mobiles with a digital camera that I reviewed so far, the Nokia N76 likewise has a shutter lag problem. Meanwhile, I updated the firmware of the Nokia N76 so there has been some improvement, but a shutter lag remains present, and makes it nearly impossible to photograph fast moving subjects. You must have taken quite a few pictures to be able to judge when to press the shutter release if you want to photograph moving subjects. However, un-expectedly moving subjects are nearly impossible to capture.

The Nokia N76 possesses different setting possibilities for the digital camera. There are a few scenes from which you can choose, to get an as good as possible result. You have the choice from auto, portrait, landscape, night and night portrait mode. Also for the flash you have several setting modes; you can set the flash on auto, always on, anti-red eye and off. Besides this, you also have the possibility to set the self-timer, the white balance and the exposure values.

The image quality of the Nokia N76 lives up to the expectations. For a camera in this segment, such a quality is average; he who wants to use his mobile better or more aimed at photography, should choose the higher resolution models. If the picture is taken with good lighting situations, the quality is decent and the photos are well exposed and of average focus. It gets different in twilight, the noise values get so high that the photo can hardly be used. This is not very uncommon for a mobile phone.

The memory of the Nokia N76 can be extended with a microSD memory card. You have the choice of cards with different capacities and speeds. We chose the SanDisk 2GB microSD memory card because of the stability and speed of the SanDisk cards. You can also choose for the 2GB microSD Memory Kit. This way, you won’t only have a microSD card, but also a microSD adapter and a microSD to SD adapter. The advantage of the microSD Memory Kit is that you will only have to purchase one card, which can be used in several products, under the condition that these products support these cards.

Sometimes you miss a television broadcast or you want to watch this movie at home, but you don’t have any time. You often do have this time in the morning on the train or during your lunch break at work. If you possess a mobile that can play films in MPEG4, 3GP or 3G2 format, then the SanDisk V-Mate will be an ideal addition. You just connect the SanDisk V-Mate, for instance between the DVD player, digital TV receiver or satellite receiver and the television. You can use the channel setting of the DVD player, satellite receiver or the digital TV receiver to record from different channels with the SanDisk V-Mate. The SanDisk V-Mate supports SD, SDHC, miniSD, miniSDHC, microSD microSDHC, MMC, MMCplus, MMC, Memory Stick/PRO/Duo/PRO Duo cards and can also be used as a card reader by means of a USB connection. With a SanDisk V-Mate, you will never have to miss any programs!

For the transfer of files from the memory card to the computer, you can use a SanDisk card reader. If you want a card reader that can be taken along easily because of its size, then you can choose for the SanDisk MobileMate card reader. You have the choice between two different MobileMate card readers; the SD Plus and the Memory Stick plus models. The Memory Stick Plus supports: Memory Stick Micro, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick cards, and the SD Plus card reader supports: microSDHC, miniSDHC, SDHC, microSD, miniSD, SD, MultiMediaCard, MMCplus, MMCmobile, RS-MMC and RS-MMC Dual Voltage memory cards. The MobileMate card readers can be taken anywhere and connected to any computer with USB; therefore, you can transfer your files from and to the computer anywhere.
