Motorola K1 - Battery

The Motorola's battery is a Motorola BC50 3.7 Volt Lithium Ion battery. You can charge this battery in two ways, either with the charger via the socket outlet or via the USB cable you use to connect it to the computer. If the battery is fully charged, it is good for about one week stand-by time if you don't phone with it or do something like play games on it for hours. I used the phone for a normal time and had to recharge it about every four days. Charging the battery takes approximately one and a half hours.

The Motorola KRZR K1 also has a MP3 player. To be exact, the Motorola K1 even has two MP3 players. You can find one via the Audio menu and one via menu applications. You can't use the latter in minimised version; it always has to be used as a full screen MP3 player. Not all files were played directly. I wish that Motorola had settled for one good MP3 player instead of two lesser ones. The sound quality was fine otherwise, but you can only use the Motorola headphone.

In general, the quality of the screen is good. The fact that some things such as the menu are sometimes a bit unclear is not the fault of the screen, but the construction of the pictograms. For the rest, the Motorola K1's screen is nice to work with. The external screen is also high resolution. The blue glass on the front of the Motorola K1 sometimes gave the impression that the reproduction was a bit on the dark side, but did not diminish the screen's brightness.

There are different ways of connecting the Motorola KRZR K1 to a computer. You can choose a Bluetooth or USB connection. The Bluetooth connection is stable and works quickly. Transferring 10MB of files took me just over one and a half minutes. The accompanying software is very handy. You can rework contacts, send a text message or press a number and start calling. In general these are very handy functions. As a nice extra, the software looks like a phone on the screen.

The Motorola has good reception. I had reach with the Motorola KRZR K1 in places where I normally don't have reach with my own phone and voices sounded clear. Thanks to the design, it seemed as if there was less hindrance from wind blowing in the microphone, which was good for the sound quality. You can switch from the speaker held to your ear to a hands free function with one press of the button. The hands free function is very handy until you are somewhere noisy. I tested the Motorola with a Bluetooth headset from Gembird, the Gembird BTHS 003. You can read about how this headset did in our test in our Gembird Bluetooth headset review which will be published later.
