Palm, Inc. and MobiTV, Inc., invite filmmakers to submit their made-for- mobile films to compete in the first Treo Mobile Comedy Film Festival which runs from Sept. 18th through Oct. 18th exclusively on the MobiTV service. A one-month free trial of MobiTV is available to Treo smartphone users. The film festival will award thousands of dollars in cash and prizes to the aspiring filmmakers from the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom, who come up with the funniest made-for-mobile comedy films. Susie Essman (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and John Henson (TV Guide network, Talk Soup) will co-host the Treo Film Festival awards show on Oct. 18 at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.

Ed Colligan, president and chief executive officer of Palm, and Micheál Martin TD, Ireland’s minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, announced that Palm, a leader in mobile computing and a provider of smartphones, has opened a Research and Development Centre at Swords, Co. Dublin, with the support of IDA Ireland (Industrial Development Agency). The centre will develop custom software applications for Palm Treo smartphones for the mobile operators in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

Palm Europe announced the Palm Treo 500v smartphone which combines multiple forms of communication and multimedia capabilities with high speed 3G/UMTS mobile internet access, allowing users access to popular websites such as MySpace, YouTube and eBay whilst on the move. The new Palm Treo 500v smartphone will initially be available exclusively to Vodafone customers from October. The Palm Treo 500v smartphone runs on a Windows Mobile 6 standard platform and has a full keyboard, large screen, video streaming capability and a comprehensive multi-messaging functionality covering Instant Messaging, SMS, email and phone and personal information management software in a new design.
