The NTT Docomo booth at the Mobile World Congress is always a good place to find a remarkable and unique mobile product. Next to the wooden smartphone, the NTT Docomo Touch Wood, we also ran into the NTT Docomo F-04B handset. On the whole it looks futuristic, especially when it appears that by pushing on the bottom of the NTT F-04B, it can be split into two pieces. The fun part is that the separate pieces can still communicate with each other through Bluetooth technology. Additionally, very ingenious, it is even possible to choose which or both pieces will be used for communication. Both pieces have a microphone and speaker. But how does the battery work?

We have already seen mobile phones with solar technology before, but NTT Docomo has gone a step further. During the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona, we saw the NTT Solar Hybrid, a waterproof phone that runs on solar energy. Well isn’t that handy when you want to sail around the world in the sun on your boat. Solar-powered mobile devices do not seem to be very popular among the masses. That is not so strange, as a couple of days visit to the MWC 2010 in Spain did not deliver much sunshine. You have to be able to feed such a product with sunlight. And fun in the sun was not exactly present in Barcelona.

NTT Docomo showed what is possible with wood as a raw material. Together with Olympus, among others, a phone has been designed with a wooden body. By working with soft, natural wood, designing a rough design with 3D technologies, putting this into a mould to form a design with steam, and then to process it in a way that is patented by Olympus, it has become possible to design a wooden phone. The impregnating process ensures for, among others, that the NTT Docomo Touch Wood phone is protected against the elements such as moisture, insects and mold. Unfortunately the NTT Touch Wood cannot be found outside of Japan.

Tadaaki is best known for his Q-pot label. The NTT SH-04B mobile cell phone is partially waterproof (IPX 5/7) and mainly stands out from the masses by its design. The chocolate on the NTT Docomo SH-04B housing is dripping off, as it were.

There is a lot in the pipeline for NTT Docomo during the upcoming winter months. One of the new phones is the NTT Docomo F-04B, a unique mobile phone. What makes the NTT F-04B so striking, is the fact that the housing of this phone consists of two parts. It is possible to detach the keyboard and the display, however, thanks to the Bluetooth interface, it remains possible for both elements to communicate with each other. The NTT Docomo F-04B is expected around March-April 2010, and for those who are into traveling: it is on sale in Japan. The PRIME series Docomo mobile phones, will be expanded with a new cameraphone in the first quarter of 2010. The NTT Docomo F-01B is a waterproof mobile phone with a high resolution image sensor of 12.2 Megapixels. So even in Japan, where this model will without question be found on the store shelves, they prove susceptible to marketing slogans such as highest resolution. This resolution for a mobile phone is simply absurd, at least with the current technology and application level, however, it does sound great as a specification. The new NTT F-01B waterproof phone will be available in several colors; black, blue and white.
