At the Growing Together 2008 conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa, Nokia revealed new products that accelerate the company's leadership in emerging markets, among them is the Nokia 1680 classic. Also a local mobile email solution exclusively for people in South Africa was introduced. The Nokia 1680 classic cell phone brings a balance of features, design and affordability to meet every lifestyle and budget. The new Nokia 1680 classic mobile phone is expected to begin shipping by the third quarter, with an expected price range from EUR 50, before applicable taxes or subsidies.

Nokia today introduced the Nokia 6300i, which offers a fully integrated and easy-to-use VoIP (Voice over IP) client combined with a GSM mobile phone. It has been quite some time since the Nokia N95 mobile phone was put on the market. During the Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona the successor was already announced: the Nokia N96. In the meantime Nokia have put an 8GB version of the Nokia N95 on the market. After its appearance it turned out that the N95 had some minus points. T-Mobile and Nokia announced the Nokia 6650 mobile phone, a stylish and easy to use cell phone optimized for use with T-Mobile services. Morph, a joint nanotechnology concept, developed by Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge (UK) - was launched alongside the "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition, on view from February 24 to May 12, 2008, at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Morph features in both the exhibition catalog and on MoMA's official website. Elements of Morph might be available to integrate into handheld devices within 7 years, though initially only at the high-end. However, nanotechnology may one day lead to low cost manufacturing solutions, and offers the possibility of integrating complex functionality at a low price.

Nokia announced the launch of the global Nokia Media Network, a premium advertising network including over 70 leading publisher and operators as well as Nokia media properties. AccuWeather, Discovery, Hearst, Reuters, and Sprint have joined with Nokia to form the first global mobile ad network of top tier publishers. Nokia Media Network's wide reach of the most desirable mobile audience is yielding click-through rates averaging 10% in certain channels, the highest reported response rates in the industry.

Nokia has joined the WWF Climate Savers program with a pledge to build on its strong environmental record by improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions across its business. The company is targeting a series of energy savings including halving the stand by energy used by its mobile phone chargers, using green electricity to power 50 per cent of its facilities by 2010 and reducing the overall energy needs of its sites by 6 per cent by 2012.
