Skyworks Solutions, an innovator of high performance analog and mixed signal semiconductors enabling mobile connectivity, announced that Samsung is leveraging its ultra-compact and high efficiency front-end modules (FEMs) for open-loop EDGE, and power amplifiers (PAs) for WCDMA and HSDPA across more than 10 innovative universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) models. In particular, Skyworks is supporting their first mobile TV phone for Europe.

With another demonstration of the power and flexibility of the Orb architecture, Orb Networks announced the world's first way to stream live TV to the iPhone and iPod touch. For the first time, iPhone users can enjoy the immediacy of live sporting events and fast-breaking news on their phone. Orb was the first company to enable the live streaming of TV from users' homes to almost any mobile phone with a streaming player and a web browser. To get around the iPhone's extreme limitations on supported video formats, Orb created a special application, OrbLive, to enable the streaming of any video format to iPhones.

Vodafone and Warner Music International announced that Vodafone customers in 14 countries will be able to watch a live, one-off show by Madonna on their mobile. Streamed live from New York's famous Roseland Ballroom exclusively outside the US to Vodafone customers, the performance will celebrate the release of Madonna’s new album, Hard Candy, which is available globally from today. Vodafone customers in Cyprus, Egypt, France (SFR), Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, South Africa (Vodacom), Spain and UK will have access to the show via their mobile phones on Vodafone live!

Legend Silicon Corporation, a company delivering semiconductor solutions for terrestrial digital TV (DTV), has partnered with Sharp Corporation, a consumer electronics manufacturer, to develop an integrated single chip solution. This chip enables mobile devices such as portable media players (PMPs), handheld TVs and mobile phones in China to receive the GB20600-2006 terrestrial digital television broadcast. This joint development expands Legend Silicon’s mobile products portfolio in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Legend Silicon and Sharp first collaborated in 2003 when Sharp used Legend Silicon’s demodulator solutions in their tuner module for digital TV.

At the 2008 International CES here this week, LG Electronics is demonstrating products that incorporate new circuitry for receiving the robust ATSC-compatible MPH (Mobile-Pedestrian-Handheld) signals. Developed by LG Electronics, its U.S. R&D subsidiary Zenith and Harris Corporation, MPH is capable of providing robust over-the-air DTV signals to mobile, pedestrian and handheld devices. The prototype MPH products showcased at CES (in private demonstrations and in the LG Electronics booth #8214, Central Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center) include mobile phones, personal DTVs, laptop PCs and in-car infotainment systems.

CBS Mobile has teamed up with Medio Systems, a provider of mobile search and advertising solutions, to add search capabilities and search-enabled advertising opportunities to its CBS Mobile websites. This partnership marks a significant milestone for both companies in driving a standard for delivering easy-to-access mobile content to a growing mobile Internet audience, projected by eMarketer to exceed 750 million users worldwide by 2010. Under the agreement, Medio Systems will provide CBS Mobile users the ability to easily search and navigate content on CBS Sports Mobile, CBS Mobile News, and CW Mobile websites. The partnership also expands the wide-ranging menu of advertising options CBS mobile offers clients.

Wapple has created and is powering the mobile internet site for the prestigious MTV Europe Music Awards 2007 (MTV EMA) that take place in Gemany. With most of the awards voted for by MTV viewers, the mobile site has been designed to encourage more user interaction from more countries through mobile phones. The MTV show will be hosted by rapper Snoop Dogg and will feature performances from crowd favourites and some nominees. The awards themselves are largely voted for by the public. Germany will host the event for a third time with the awards being held in Munich, 1st November, 2007.

Nokia announced that it began shipping its the Nokia N95 8GB. Nokia has teamed up with Sony to offer a Nokia N95 8GB which comes pre-loaded with the full-length SpiderMan movie in Europe and countries in Middle East and Africa to celebrate the launch of the Nokia N95 8GB. The movie sees SpiderMan's suit turn jet-black and enhance his powers, just like the Nokia N95 has undergone a similar transformation to become the N95 8GB.

Palm, Inc. and MobiTV, Inc., invite filmmakers to submit their made-for- mobile films to compete in the first Treo Mobile Comedy Film Festival which runs from Sept. 18th through Oct. 18th exclusively on the MobiTV service. A one-month free trial of MobiTV is available to Treo smartphone users. The film festival will award thousands of dollars in cash and prizes to the aspiring filmmakers from the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom, who come up with the funniest made-for-mobile comedy films. Susie Essman (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and John Henson (TV Guide network, Talk Soup) will co-host the Treo Film Festival awards show on Oct. 18 at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.
